Hey there,

My 92 EB Fairmont has done 278,000km and seems to be in fairly good nick.

I was just wondering what some other cars have done in terms of
mileage and the kind of work that may need to be done in the
future....

Cheers.

my ef runs pretty good at 270,000...

idles well, no major leaks/cracks, stock suspention is getting a little bouncy in the rear, but im getting it lowered soon anyway so im not fussed. still got good power from the engine, transmission is okay, the radiator blew a couple of months ago, but that was the one from the factory (10 years old) so overall im pretty happy.

My XG ute has 199,551 on the clock ... odometer has stopped though ... not sure how long ago though.

I have a new odometer/trip meter to put in though ... but there is no leaks on the engine or gearbox ... is very smooth to drive ... still has a heap of power behind it ... and not too bad on fuel (just did Canberra and back to Sydney the other day with a bit of driving around the ACT as well).

I reckon I did somewhere between 600-700km on the day ... I filled up before I went ... and filled when I got back .. I cold only get 52L in the tank after the trip ... so economy was pretty good.

I bought my 1988 EA in 1999 and the clock said 265,000km. The log book said it got to 220,000km in 1992 & right now the speedo says 270,400km after 6 years & never having a day standing still in the driveway since then 1999.... (?? 5,400km in 5 years...???... NOT!!)

The speedo itself works but it hasn't recorded a TRUE km since 1992. My sums at 20,000km a year (VERY light for me) makes a total of 260,000 plus 270,400 totalling 530,000km.

She runs "smoky" (see other post) & has done 1 head gasket since I've had her, new clutch a month ago & next Moday is having a diff seal fixed.... other than that (touching wood) she's a terrific car.

This may not HELP with tips, but to me it's testemant that these cars just "Keep on going". Regular tune-ups, weekly fluid checks & "Optimax" fule.... keeps my old girl going!

Well ... look at the taxis out there ... they rack up so many km ... have heard of these engines hitting the 1 million km mark without a rebuild. If regularly serviced ... and not thrashed all of the time ... it will last a long time.

My old EL had 270, 000. I knew the cars history since new, and in that time it had only broken down once. In the time I had it, all I had to repair was a relay for the brake lights and routine matinence. It still felt very good when I sold it. :(

1989 EA with 230'000kms, and all that needed fixing to this date has been alternator, universals, and very recently, the transmission fluid all leaked out! I haven't driven it in 3 months, and its seems that the 'transmission extension housing' seal is rooted, according to the big puddle of fluid, and gregory book.
