Shugg and I were out tonight comparing engine power, driving feel etc and the issue of the cars weight came up. I always thought AU's were heavier than the E series predecessors but looking at his rego papers it says the kerb weight is 14xx (1480? can't remember exactly, but it was in the 1400kg ball park) making it actually lighter.

I thought my EF futura was in the mid 1500s but it seems specs differ where you look. One site listed the weight at 1530 for the EF and 1536 for the AU. I know the V8s eqipt models are a little heavier than the I6s but what about the I6s through the different models ?

I thought they got progressively heavier through the models but perhaps not ... :?:

Anyway, does have a link to or know the proper/accurate weights of the different models ?

This is the correct weights of each EF 6 and 8 cyl

Falcon GLi 1536 (6cyl) 1572 (8cyl)
Futura 1556 (6) 1591 (8)
XR's 1556 (6) - (8)
Fairmont 1594 (6) 1618 (8)
Ghia 1600 (6) 1624 (8)

No idea about the EL's and Au's sorry

At home I have a book compiled with the help of Ford with the factory weight figures.

If half of these havent been posted up by the time I get home I'll scan the page and post it up.

I'd say they'd be pretty much the same weight model to model, with the main exception being the AU's that had IRS suspension fitted.

I'm not too sure its open to the public, but on the private track day I went to, they weighed the cars before hand. nfi why ? It was my first time at the track so it was all new to me.

Au's were significantly lighter than any other Falcon, Ford used a special thinner gauge steel, for the body. BHP (Now Bluescope Steel) dropped production of that steel as it cost too much to produce so The BA's put on wieght.

EA's are low 1400's I believe, and EB-ED's start at around 1480kg. So they are a 'little' bit lighter than EF-EL but not much.

I've had my EL Fairmont on a local weighbridge and with me in it it was 1790kg if I remember right...
For anyone in Adelaide that is interested there is a registered weighbridge at Garden Grove, if there is no queue of cars and trailers using it, you can drive on just to get your weight, no charge.

Thats awfully bloody heavy.

I had my EL Ghia on a local weighbridge and it weighed in at 1647 with a tank of fuel, which I think it more ballpark. And that was with no one in the car.

I'm 6' 4" and weigh 86kg so throw me in your car and it pumps out to 1733kg. Add a V8 and well... Porky Fairmont.
