Ok, last night when i was supposed to be starting to head home from my girlfriends place.. my exhaust on my EA caught fire!!.. ok, i know my theromostat is a lil bit F**k.. but i didn't think that the engine was THAT hot, coz it had been sitting in a friends driveway most of the day, i have just changed the coolant (about 1000km ago) and yeah.. just wondering what the hell happened for it to start about 15 minutes after starting the car for the first time in the day, (and no i wasn't thrashing it toooo much..)..
and the car is still out there, pretty much abandonned on the road side, and parents won't let me drive it back.. (god i'm persistant).. so.. should i risk it??

Had a similar happening in our XW bash car. It was a leaking trans cooler line spraying fluid onto exhaust causing masses of white smoke.

Could be worth a look.

Good point. Cooler lines run from transmission to side of radiator. About 6mm steel pipe but if have been altered or had a bodgy repair done maybe heavy flexible type line. Thats what we used to repair ours and have never replaced the steel pipe  . Ours had rubbed on something, cant remember what, and worn a small hole which shot the trans fluid quite a distance. Lucky we were being followed by others or we would have run out of trans fluid.

BTW we used fuel injection hose for repair.Cut steel tube and slipped over outside of steel pipe and put 2 small hose clamps each side. Needs to be a good fitting hose!

Good luck and hey, it might just be a plastic bag, never thought of that.

Ok, thanks guys.. i'll check it out when i get down there... :).. if there are anymore things just post them and i'll probably check them out too!..

But somehow i don't think its a plastic bag... lol it started while driving from Cummins to Yeelanna.. lol.. and its.. country.. (Sometimes i think they don't have any plastic bags :P) god.. that was lame..
ohh.. and another thing i just remembered.. i just got my fuel pump replaced.. and yeh it keeps running like it has no petrol.. like with all the popping and no guts and stuff.. any ideas on that?

its most likely not transmission as the run up the passanger side and along the front of the car. what it is most likely to be is your power steering hose or rack squirting oil onto the cat/muffler.it would have a burin oil smell and lotsa white smoke so its not a fire. how far you have to drive it as its most likely not gonna catch fire as oil is diluted with other liquids ect and its not a very flammable substance like fuel. but its the vapours in fuel that are the flamable substance of it. with the fuel pump you havent connect the line back to front causing the supply to be runnin along the return line (smaller diameter then the proper supply line) and the supply line as the return . easist way is trace from the filter back to the pumps outlet if its mixed up swap em round and should be good . with the drivin it home if its not far it wont hurt just have an extinghisher handy

Power steering switch could be leaking as well.

That happened to my EB a few years back.

Well.. i never really thought it would be the Power Steering, but i know there has been a leak in it for some time though... thats why i bought a new one.. but haven't installed it yet... mhmm.. thanks, might check it out.. and its about 60km from where we left it to my house.. so i think thats a bit too far, although.. if i end up drivin it, i'll just nick an extinguisher from work or mums work ute :)
