i have been reading through the forums and have come across a few eople that have a knocking noise that seams to come from the back of the engine. most of these people have found that the flexplate bolts have come loose. just woundering if someone could instruct me on how to check and see if i have the same problem as i am hearing a knocking noise from the same area...

does the noise change, when you put it in gear <> neutral?

Get the car up on stands / hoist, and remove the inspection cover and you access the bolts from there

yes the knocking noise happens randomly, only notice it what the car is at a standstill, if i put the car into drive the is a different knock to neutral, the rev's drop slightly when the car goes to drive/reverse

There should be a plastic access plate on the bottom of the bellhousing between the gearbox and flywheel, remove it and have a look.

Plastic???^^^^
its a EB, the inspection covers steel. Also you cant get to the flex plate bolts by taking off the inspection plate. You can only get to the torque converter bolts!

You'll probably find that it has cracked (the flex plate) in between all/most the bolt holes. Its a common problem. Mine did the same thing back when it was auto. Requires removing the auto and replacing with a new one or second hand from a wreckers if you want to risk it.
