hey guys, just wondering if people have had any problems with engine light coming on after changing there exhaust??? been told that after changing the headers and cat engine light comes on because it throws codes, just after some info about it all and if its true snd how to get around it. been told it would need a tune of some kind?? no idea of what type.
any help would be great!

Yes, the FG's throw a check engine light when the headers are changed. It's nothing to worry about unless it's annoying you. But like you said, when you custom tune you can remove the check engine light. Or take it to Ford and they'll f**k with it lol

yeh not wanting the engine light on, it would annoy me to much, plus if something was about to go wrong i wouldnt know because its already on.. how much would a basic tune cost just to get rid of it and nor ro come back??

I'm uncertain of the price mate. Ask around, you might get away with a mechanic being able to do it for far less than Ford, and also a custom tune. I guess if you upgrade the intake, and full exhaust and get a full custom tune you'll get rid of it that way, plus make a fair chunk of power.

There's quite a few diagnostic scanners on ebay for under $100 that claim to "Clear trouble codes and turn off the MIL ("Check Engine" light)"

Looking to do my exhaust soon, just haven't sourced an xcal yet and can afford the tune, was going to buy one of these to remove the check engine light.\

Might be worth a try.

since the bf there is now 2 o2 sensors on the exhaust. changing the headers and cat will have the o2 sensors provide the ecu with info saying something is wrong. as such it will turn on the mil light, and run either rich or lean to compensate for the readings. theres a few ways to stop the mil light being on. most expensive is a custom tune, followed by a generic tune (my generic tune cost about $800 including the xcal unit). other than that you can either put up with the mil light being on and having a possibly rich running engine, or do the dodgy brothers trick thats touted by a few exhaust shops. basically what they do is remove the o2 sensor, weld a piece of tube (approx 1 inch diameter and 2 or 3 inches long) at right angles to where the oxy sensor screws into the exhaust. they then weld a cap on the end, drill in a hole, tap it and screw in the o2 sensor. reason being that the sensor reads the air in the tube which moves at less velocity and has less petrol vapours and such in it, resulting in the light not turning on.

steroidfrog, im pretty sure the ebay scanners will give you diagnostic codes and let you turn of the mil light under the idea the problem has been fixed. as soon as you drive the car again it will come back on. theres a difference between turning off the mil light and removing it. think of it like the service spanner symbol on your cluster. when you get a service it gets turned off by resetting it, however it comes back when the conditions are met again. to stop it coming back altogether you need to remap the ecu to remove it...

Does anyone know the actual fault code that's logged?
