Crank seals, timing cover, sump gasket etc.

They've quoted 7.5hours of labor.

I also get big drops of very green coolant under the harmonic balancer from time to time. The oil seals are leaking quite a bit in the that area, hence the quote to fix. But where would the coolant be coming from. It's not dirty coolant at all, but fresh. No where near the overflow either so definately not that?
Head gasket was fixed 2-months ago.

Any ideas?

i think the coolant near the balancer would be a leaking water pump..

Either the water pump or the waterpump gasket.

Theres nothing coolant wise on the water pump side. Only evident on the air-con compressor side, under the balancer.

Oh so it is on the A/C side, I say maybe thermostat housing?

+1 to thermostat housing. The gasket between the housing and head might be leaking, mine is but I'm too lazy to fix. Could also be the thermostat gasket inside the housing or the hoses.

Have a look at the heater hoses as well, there might be a leak and drips backwards towards the front.

I normally do all that stuff myself so cant comment on how expensive it is for the work or not but the thing I would look at is how good is the motor itself ??. Cause for that money you could get another motor with bugger all k's and bang it in and while you go it out u could throw a rear main and front seals etc for good measure. If ya got a manual or a mate who knows a bit about it you should be able to change the motor yourself fairly easily.

Yeah for that kind of money why wouldn't you put a fresh motor in it makes sense to me. I seen a good low k motor on ebay the other day they only wanted like $500 or something like that. and with the other 500 I am sure you could get it put in.

Actually I checked again, it's $1162.00.

But the motor itself is good. Still powerful. Idle has never been better. Fairly quiet. Just a bit of NVH through the steering when running rich in the morning which I put down to possibly mounts going bad?

Heater hoses 4-weeks old, and the heater tap replaced then aswell.
Thermostat is new, with a clean housing with a good seal.

The thermostat maybe fine, but the gasket from the thermostat housing to the head may have failed,, or the O ring from the metal heater house may have failed.

Yeah that could be it. Seals to the head?

Would air-con fluid be a very vivid green color. Could that be it dripping slowly onto the pan under the harmonic balancer?

if your aircon has ever been re gassed they usually use flurescent green dye in the aircon oil..
if its greasy like oil it will stay there and dust will stick to it,ect..
if its coolant it will be obviously like green water and will leave a white residue when it dries..

For that money you could have a freshly rebuilt motor dropped in.
Or you could spend a few bucks on new gaskets n sealants and spend a bit of time checking and replacing as necessary.

Could also be the top radiator hose, Water would run down the hose and drip at the lowest point, But yer even if the motor has good power etc I still think you would have to be mad to do the seals imagine how p****d you would be if you do that then in 6 months the bearings are shot and you gotta start all over again. I'm just waiting for the motor I got in mine to even hiccup so I have an excuse to drop an AU motor in :P
