Which car performs better, Commodore or Falcon with their respective 6s.

I have read many posts where people say the i6 will kill the V6 etc etc

But almost every Motor/Wheels magazine has the Commy V6 trounce the i6

For example

VN belted the EA

VP and EB 4.0 about even

VR VS EF, VR was quicker in the comparos

VS VS EL VS was quicker

AU VS VT, about time the AU was quicker

Now BA is quicker than VZ

Early on did the E series cop a flogging in performance??

Just about all manual falcons will smoke an equivalent commodore.
Just about all auto commodores will smoke an equivalent falcon, until like BA.

*Generally Speaking*

Agreed with voxace.
Auto vs Auto, the commy will rape an E-Series off the line.
You start to reel them back in at 80 (once first gear starts to run out :P), and can overtake them at bout 120.
It's a combination of the commo's having better overall gearing and lighter weight.

I know I have written similar threads but reading what others dish out, everyone says the falc will kill the V6 but its not necessarily the case.

I own two falcs, i have owned commys as well V6 and V8. I just call a spade a spade, not be overly inclined to say to falc will kick a**.

Its true the falc is always a better cruiser but questions must be asked when it comes down to the Traffic lights GP

It's kind of pointless though.
90% of the cars on here are far from stock.
And there's modified Commo V6's out there too (silly fools).
With the 3.45 diff, exhaust and extractors, I've killed an Auto VS ute.
Raped an Auto VT from a rolling start.
JUST beat an auto VL (different day he might have won)
Yet I can't pull away from a mates VN Calais.
There's so many variables, condition of motor, driver, mods, etc.

The point im eluding to is...

Who has the better base to start from. If you put extractors etc on a VS V6 will it still beat the i6 with the same mods done.

Who has the better base to start from. If one is better than the other, probably better if we pack up our bags and jump ship.

Im a falcon man but you gotta face the facts, are we better or not?

I couldn't give a f**k less if a Commo V6 is a better base.
That argument makes no sense to me.
If nobody started to mod a car because there was something that was a 'better base' out there, every car on the road would be stock.
We are better.
My car looks better then a VN, and Holden never had Cobalt Blue as a paint colour :P
Plus forget straightline speed for a second.
You try getting a Commodore to handle.
You can't just say 'oh, that car is 2 tenths faster stock, it must be an overall better car'.

the i6 is a all together better package...
sure the v6 mite be slighly better in a race...but i'd rather not drive a peaky hunk of s**t....they are really annoying to drive! my car will happily drive up the hill and not go up down up down up down thru the gears...
going up the same hill in the vy all the way up up down up down up down....so f**k annoying!
plus our engines dont sound constipated and athsmatic

My EL is quicker than my mum's VX... but my mum's VX takes corner's better, but that's only cos mine's a wagon.
The VN-VY commos have a really high first gear ratio in the autos.. so off the line they'll win.. but thats all they got.

In my opinion, it's like this (stock for stock):

Auto vs Auto (VN-VS / EA-EL): Auto Commie will be faster until 60, after that she's Falcon all the way. In gear, the Falcon shines.

Manual vs Manual (VN-VS / EA-EL): Manual Falcon will be faster EVERYWHERE!

This is talking GL/Gli vs Exec. The only decent exec was the 5 speed VS. Those things fairly hunt.

As far as engines are concerned, there is absolutely no doubting that the I6 is a far superior motor to the Commies V6. No questions about it.

after driving a vs commie, a vt commie and a new SV6 and an el falcon, all i can say is its a mixed bag....
the ectoc v6 on the vs and vt commodores wasnt too good, it had a narrower powerband up high in the rev range compared to the I6, and you got the feeling that some of the power had gone AWOL.
The I6 felt like it had its power, even in an auto if you put the foot down it would pull right from the start compared with the commies which wouldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding until 3000rpm.
However after driving the alloytec190 i can say holden have certainly stepped up the performance of their engines, and whilst i am yet to drive a new falcon i have to say the performance of the SV6 was amazing.
**all of the above cars were auto**

Now who has been filling your head with these "facts" that the v6 is superior to the inline six ;)

OK here are the facts:

Auto i6 vs auto v6 = V6 will win

Manual i6 vs manual v6 = i6 will win (plus kick the auto commies a*** aswell)

Now the reason for this is that the holden auto's have a very short first gear, meaning they were quite quick on takeoff, wereas the fords have quite a tall first gear which improves drivability but you lose some accelaration down low. Now the reason a manual i6 is usually quicker than a manual v6 is simple, they have more power. They also respond better to modification, which (answering your origional question) makes them the "better" base.

Show me one holden v6 that puts out over 170rwkw, i can name a fair few ford 6's that are making this much and more. Show me one holden commodore v6 that can pull under 13.5 down the quarter. The fastest i've heard of is 13.7, yet the fastest falcon i6 is knockin on the 12's door.

Also have a look at the holden forums such as justcommodores.com or streetcommodores.com and search for power figures and quarter mile times that the v6's boast, i gaurantee that the average power of the v6's will be considerably less and that the average quarter mile time will be slower than our inline 6's.

Facts are that the i6's have outpowered almost every holden v6 of it's corresponding year...eg
VN = 125kw
EA = 139kw

Another example is that quarter ile time for the EA spak was pretty close to the holden SS manual of the same year, 15.7 and 15.2 respectively, and being that the ss was about 120kg lighter PLUS the fact that it was an 8 compared to a 6, that shows the ford 6 is certainly not lacking in any respect.

Stick to the i6's, as has been said, there is NO question as to which one is superior.....
