But each to their own, if the dude has 8000 to blow then why not pay someone else to do all the work. id personally prefer to be involved and know abit about my turbo setup but as i said each to their own.
Question tho if he had pages of probeaddiction stuff and was willing to spend watever to get the setup done y did he not just purchase there stuff? its all at a high quality, probeaddiction is known as good quality but abit pricey.

Either way this thread has taken the wrong turn here, no need to turn it into a turbo setup price argument.
The KLDE which comes in australian probes is still a good engine, and the key is gettin power down. if you can get traction with some mods that car should do pretty well, theres some mx6 and probe owners who have run 15flat's and 15.2's with simple bolt ons.
He should do all the bolt ons such as full exhaust, CAI, underdrive pulley, lightended flywheel, short throw shifter and then he should access where his engine is at and if its close to or past 200,000kms drop a KLZE in it, all the bolt ons he has done previously will fit straight on the KLZE.

mate ask him why he didn't get the probeadiction stuff........

I dont speek as if we specialise on working on that engine.
Turbo conversions on the other hand, we do, and we do it well.

YOU are the one who turned this into a turbo setup price argument with you first post.

all i'm trying to say is that just because he' not doing it your way, doesn't make him wrong. he could have bough a cheap pipe setup and used RB25 turbo, a few cartons and some mates. got it to run for under $3000.
but he chose to give us the car and cash while he was away on exercise for a few weeks.

You'reprobably not a bad bloke, but coming on a forum like you have and making you first three posts like you did. It ain't going to win you any friends.

and the next you fel like commenting on one of my prices and quality of work, i suggest you actualy find out what the customer asked for. and maybe you leavethe quality out of it untill you've actualy seen my work.

Im sure he had his reasons.

get over urself buddy, i wasnt even trying to excuse u of turning it into a price argument, i was simply just ending the argument, i nvr said YOU turned it into the argument i was the one who challeneged the price, but i was merely saying that in a general sense theres no need to turn it into a price argument so i was gonna stop with the arguing about prices and turbo setups aswell. have a better read next time mate.

And as i said above each to their own, if he wants to keep doing it that way good on him, my argument was purely that you could do it for a better price but it all depends on many variables like pricing and how much u can do urself and so forth.

And i questioned the price, but where did i question the work? i nvr said you work was gonna be s**t for 8000, id wanna hope its good at 8000. As stated above i was saying that if he had of gone a different path he probally could of saved a few dollars without sacraficing quality on this setup.

yea got a bit heated then, as i said i dont think he wants to turbo it lol. Bassy said about traction problems an my mate has that quite alot, so the more power he throws in it the harder it will be to get off the line, but yeah hel hav to get use to it i guess

Haha yeh just abit, regarding traction. some new quality tyres and perfecting a launch technique will help alot. Ur mate myt be stalling it to high, because even tho u dont want major bog down, ud rather a tiny bit of bog down rather then the car spinning up to 5000rpm lol.
Also if hes willing to spend some serious dollars, he can pick up a LSD for his probe, and that will make a HUGE difference. These LSD's are not cheap and arent exactly easy to find. But if he spends some time on mx6 and probe forums and looks around hell be able to pik one up at a reasonable price.
Even if your mate wants a KLZE, hell all ready need the headers for fitment reasons, and itd be in his benifit to have the catback. so he should atleast do headers and a catback first up

They are NOT a good car to modify in real power terms..
A heighbour of ours wanted to turbo his MX6, asked if we could help him??
We fitted a GT30/47 internal wastegated turbo..
Drilled KLZE inlet manifold to accept screw in injector bosses so we could fit EV 1 Bosch style injectors..
We fitted 85Lb Rochester injectors with high pressure braided hose to common fuel rail .. Umm?? The original manifolds where used, but ported and some 15/8 seamless pipe from both sides to turbo and 2 1/2 dump pipe to 3" single ..
EMS 8860 ECU all went well till he bought an E Boost controler.. I TOLD him to keep boost under 10 Lb.. Sheesh people don't listen !!
One night runing 15Lb boost bang !!
Rod through the block!!
Lucky this was the import KLZE engine with 10.5 compression..
So we rebuilt his original engine with 18CC dish C.P pistons.. Ford / Eagle 5.4 inch rods .. Nitrided crank and flywheel.. Fitted block saver as they are open deck..Changed valve springs and tidied everything up.. Run in nice with about 5 Lb boost and this thing was bloody fast once going from 3 rd gear on!! Even on 5Lb.. Now we knew the motor was vertually bullet proof !! I said easy on gear changes I recomend a big fibrous clutch !! As in NOT brass button style as they are hard, tend to shock transmissions.. With Freggon E boost he turned boost up to 20Lb!!! Talk about torque steer!!
Well !! It had to happen .. The gear box s**t itself!!
So $5.500 later a billet dog box with billet final drive.. It sounded like a concrete mixer in first gear.. After 6 month's he blew TOP gear.. We went back to PAR about why ???
He said he never fitted a Billet top gear.. Bring it in I'll fit a new gear..
He's not my neighbour now.. But as I said the MX6 is NOT a good car if you want this sort of power..
Having said that if he run 6 to 8 Lb it would have been a reliable car.. It's that he wasn't mechanicle savy !! He paid for it !!
If it was rear wheel drive ? And decent transmission it would be a top car..
Fit a Jap spec KLZE engine.. Extractors.. Nice wheels etc but if you want traction ? Don't go too low in tyre profile.. 17 X 235 .. 45 series is nice..
Good shocks, springs, performance pads in brakes. Is about it.. Cheap and economical..
If you want to go further ?? I suggest a Supra with 1 or 2J GTE ...Nissan Skyline etc..
Some parts in above build was bought by neighbour.. I would have used much smaller injectors.. But the EMS handled them well..
A MSD ignition box was fitted to help spark in last engine build..
Last dyno / tune it made 240 kw at the front wheels...On 22 Lb boost..

wow EBXR8380 sounds like ur neighbours car was an absolute weapon, that car would of been putting down 13's easy. and sounds like he certainly spent a fair bit on his mx6.
Lol yeh they arent weak engines, but when u put 15lb boost pressure on em they are bound to pack up after some time, as it just wasnt an engine that was built to withstand 15lb of boost.
Really sounds like it was an awesome car.
Yeh KLZE is a good option, you can pik them up for around $1700 and then there a pretty straight forward drop, just need to change the belts, new gaskets and get new engine mounts is a good idea.
If u had a KLZE with full exhaust, cold air intake, lightended flywheel, udp, better clutch, and then as EBXR8380 said suspension and wheels and stuff that will run mod to high 14's. If you are then able to source an LSD(it is possible) you will possibly looking at low to mid 14's.

unfortunatly, their VERY expensive cars, as their an american import,
try www.probetalk.com theres an AUstralian section, thats wher eyou'll get all your answers.
Yeah MX6 engines, still their a hard car to mod as their small jap engines,
good luck

Hybrid 34 is right that there expensive cars when it comes to maintenance as i have all ready found out and general modding, as there popular in the U.S so theres plenty of aftermarket parts there but shipping is a b**ch.
Probetalk is good but unfortunately the Aus section in probetalk isnt booming with information and you sorta gotta go on what yanks say and they tend to exaggerate everything for example with there a nice word way to put it "interesting dyno claims".
There only a hard car to mod because they where made fwd and cuz there not standard with forced induction. Skylines and, silvias etc are only easy to mod because apart from the abundance of aftermarket parts there equip with forced induction. You dnt see anyone gettin ne reasonable power outa N/A skylines.
Really for an engine of its size and non forced inducton application it performs pretty well, and if they had of made the mx6 and probe rwd then this car would be alot more popular within the aftermarket modifing scene

So true, had a squirt with a STOCK GTS-T Skyline R33, It was half a car infront of me the whole way, and im driving a fairlane.....go figure:S

Coming back to the probe, as every1 has said, not much you can do mate unless you want to spend big bucks, a nice looking car, but not pocket money happy unfortunatly,
Good luck
