I've found an AU Fairmont that looks mint. Checking it out this arvo. Gonna cost around $5000, does that sound alright? Redbook seems to think so.

$5000 for an AU fairmont, sounds a bit suss to me. Id look for a EL XR6 or a EL fairmont Ghia with that $8000 your spending

I checked it out with my old man and it seems pretty damn good. Owned by the one family it's entire life, driven by a woman most days.
Only negative things were rear tyres near the end of life and front suspension a bit worn. I reckon it's one of the best looking AU's i've seen around these parts. The guy had it for sale for a few weeks at $6,500, but now just wants it gone because he needs the driveway space cause he has three cars. Put the deposit down earlier tonight.

far out that was a quick sale, you should get it RACV tested aswell. I know alot of people think there s**t, but they are worth it if your buying from a private seller.

Well, the guy said he wasn't going to take $5,300 from someone else and my max available budget was $5,500, so I just took it. I'm giving it a REVs check tonight, just to be on the safe side, but I think i'll leave the proper checking out 'til I can get some more cash (few weeks). Right now, I just need something to get me to uni that isn't my sister's Hyundai or Canberra's shocking public transport.

Just a point though - You can take your EA radiator to a rad shop and get the tanks swapped over, and the radiator serviced. Get the EF/L tanks instead.
Seems like a viable option? |
