Hey Guys

I just picked a EB2 4L head (travel 388thou kms) and a few other things for 100 dollars of a my (immature) mate will take some photos tomorrow in the sunlight.. (although we all know what a head looks like).

Going to basically reco it myself (or rebuild it). And then I will port and polish it (slow and steady wins the race).

Just a few Q's!
Are the bits and peices required available new non-gen? (or should i just heavyily clean the internal bits)
Shouls I get the head sandblasted to bring it near new?

That is about it any suggestions well worth it.

See how it cleans up with some degreaser & similar stuff.
Have you got the gear to pull it down???
You can get aftermarket HLA's, not sure how good they are though.
You can get aftermarket valves & valve springs & valve stem seals.
It takes awhile to port & polish the head, and to get them as close as possible as to be all the same as each other.
Have you got the gear to do that too???
You should get the head checked for straight, cracks, and get it machined.
What condition are the valves & seats in????

I made my own tooling to assemble/disassemble the head. I made it from what I had lying around. ( i have heaps of materials, leftovers from all sorts of projects..LOL )
The pics are of the same head in the previous post.

You can get spring compressors at your local auto shop...or if you are handy with making your own tools like cjh's tool, then that is your best bet. But I'd get a spring compressor :D.

phong =P~

i have a work shop manual for 3.9 series. is much if any differences from the 4L onwards?

i will price a spring compressing tool and purchase one when i have the cash. As i said before slow and steady...

Another queastion...
If this head is any good and i go well what is the go with the whole compression issue.... (ie 3.9 raises a 4L compression and a 4L lowers the decompression) is this an issue at all, eg. lower the power out put or torque or even raise said things

The 3.9 head would raise compression because it has smaller ports/ combustion chambers whereas the 4.0 head flows better because of the larger ports and combustion cambers (which means less compression).

I would recommend doing a flow test for the stock 4.0 head you plan to mod, then do another after you have completed your work and determine the differences.

Also, by getting a machinist to skim off the surface of the head, you can raise compression on any head (this will come in handy if you are building a N/A motor).

Maybe try and build it with tickford spec valves and springs to keep costs down?

Will do the whole ring around tomorrow to get prices and alike.

But what would i expect to pay to get the head surface "skimed"...

Is the a Head VRS kit or something similair?
