G'day to all,

I have no idea whether fuel injectors need to be serviced or replaced. I don't want to pay a fortune to replace with genuine Ford if they need to be replaced.

My engine takes a bit longer to start and on does tend not to idle as smooth as it used to when I first brough it.

I had the vehicle for close to 8 months and already clocked over 100,000klms. Yes, I do a lot of driving.

I've changes spark plugs, leads and coil since then.

Is there anything else that could cause the engine to idle less than smooth?

Also, Do the injectors need to be serviced?

Try cleaning the idle speed controller , located on the throttle body, and clean inside the throttle body
Replace the air filter as well If its been in there for a long time , or dirty
Replace fuel filter and if you wanted get the injectors cleaned ,probably cheaper to buy another set though . Most injectors will fit .

See how you go .

What does you car idle at ?

Hello ef_falcon_95.

Thanks for the info on idle speed controller, I would not have thought of that one.

I've replaced the air filter not long ago (5 months ago). Just done an engine oil and oil filter change two days ago.

Do you know where I can get these fuel injectors from at a good price?

From memory the idle speed is sitting on about 1600 rpm or thereabouts.

Hi Peter

Chances are it might not be injectors , but you can get a set from eBay, or a secong Hand set from wreckers ,
1600rpm on idle is way to high , my el idles at 750 rpm, and au should be similar .
Also check for Any vacuum leaks and you might have a faulty map sensor.
Spray throttle body cleaner around vacuum hoses and if it changes revs that means there's a leak .

Wouldn't hurt to check that the inlet manifold is tightened up and also, the Fuel pressure regulator could be faulty as well?
The regulator is 2.7 bar so don't get the wrong pressure if you need to change it.

Sometime ago I went to Ford to get them to have a quick check on the car, at that point in time they did mention I had a leaking manifold, possibly inlet. They also mentioned plugs, leads and distributor...I've changed the plugs, distributor and leads myself as Ford mechanics would have cost me too much.

I have not touched the manifold.What is involved with that one and Is that a difficult job?

Where would the fuel pressure regulator be located?

Yep, managed to find the fuel reg with the aid Gregorys No 274 Falcon Manua.

Some of the info and diagrams in Max Ellery No EP.F042 is not well written or descriptive enough in my opinion.

Correction on my idling speed, it is approximately 750rpm and not 1600rpm as stated previosuly. I double checked.

TMAP Sensor is hidden inside the Throttle assembly from what I have read in Gregorys, would that be right?

That response from Ford sounds a bit... pathetic "uh, yeah it might be anything" (rolleyes)

I'd suggest getting an ECU diagnostic done and see if that shows anything.

On my EF several months ago I had noticed it taking quite a bit of cranking to start - different from how it HAD been which was to fire up pretty much instantly. On a totally unrelated issue I got round to giving the timing cover at the front of the engine a light degrease as it had a bit of a dirty/oily buildup on it - not terrible but just grubby looking - including all over and around the Crank Angle Sensor. After doing that the car went back to firing up instantly...

I think the CAS on later engine is under the cover tho? - ecu codes might show if there's an issue - and you could just try undoing and recoupling any connectors you can get to.

Thanks for the tip.I never have any codes flashing on my dash. The only thing that flashes consistantly is a red light with a hand and the word STOP, I have no idea what that is suppose to signify but does not flash when I drive, only when I park the car.

I might give the sensors a degrease also.

If revs change, presto.

Also use said varby cleaner on the ISC and give it a good clean.

Thanks mate, will give that a go and see if there is a difference. I'm not that familiar with the components of computerised cars.

If Inlet manifold is leaking, is it a big job to fix?

What needs to be removed to gain access to the inlet manifold?

The codes I'm referring to are diagnostic codes that can be read from the ECU by a special reader - presumably Ford mekanix should be able to manage that (tho they evidently didn't seem to do it for you first time round).

I have not seen anything flashing on my dash but will defintely ask these Ford Mechanics to do a reading and see what they come up with.
