I got myself a G-TECH today - the cheap one ($57 from e-bay)

First run - on a public freeway at 7PM (good amount of traffic)

Acceleration: 0-60 miles (== 96km/h) 8.1 seconds (I am sure I can do better, I was holding back given the road and traffic)

Power: 139.4kw (Input weight = 1815kg). I went to 5500rpms in first and second gear. Speed in second gear was near 140km/h

Current mods = XR6T Snorkal and 2nd CAI

Do these numbers sound reasonable for an N/A? I guess I should expect a little higher on a dyno maybe 150rwkw with the present setup

Yeah that sounds about right if you were holding back a little. Ive got exactly the same mods as you.
Installed the 2nd xr8 cai last night. Made a good difference in power and sound. Did u notice a difference with that mod?
$57 is cheap. What features does it have?

G-TECH ? Brand the box it came is in land-fill by now. Have a look at e-bay under G-Tech there are a few for sale and go for around $55.

It is in imperial and does 0-60, braking distance, quarter mile, G forces and maximum power (hp) only. It does not store values so you have to write them down.

I converted the maximum hp of 187 to 139kw
:D :D

I installed the XR8 Snorkal 2nd CAI a couple of weeks ago - good induction noise and subjectively it feels better at lower speeds. Fuel consumption has gone up a little from AVG 12.8L/100km to 13.2L/100km so clearly the engine is burning more fuel most likely because it has more air.

My mate got one of the newer ones (the ss model), it has the LCD display... very cool lol, slightly ricey with the shift lights and all, but all the stuff it tells you is amazing! I haven't done my car yet, and it does metric, which is a bonus, he pulled 40 RWKW in his hilux ute on LPG lol. with 111Nm of torque at 3755 or soemthing RPM, it graphs it all for you, and replays the run.. and he bought for basically a tacho. It saves like 30 runs or something, and hooks up to the computer, yet to experiment with that though. Cost him $300 and it was free shipping. so tiny too, size of a small mobile phone.

Cheers

They usually run from the cig lighter socket. (from that they can get RPMs)

2 or 3 accelerometers (akin to a gyroscope) detects G forces, from that you can calculate speed/distance.

Program in weight, and then power torque is calculated.

Easy.

how can it get rpm from the cig lighter?
also would the readings stand roughly true to a dyno (power and tourque)

The alternator produces DC from an AC source, the g-tech can pick up the very subtle 'ripples' that are a sideafect from making DC from an AC source (it won't work at all if the car is only running from the battery as that's true ripple-free DC)

I'm bidding on one now.

Are they set up for specific cars? The titles seem to suggest they are.

I cant wait to give it a go if I win.

Yeah at lower speeds it definitely feels better.

With the G tech, can it measure times for rolling response acceleration eg 80-120 km/h? Im not sure what the magazine journos use for performance testing but in the stat bar they always provide the 80 to 120 acceleration time. How would they measure it?
