Where did you get it from if you dont mind me asking low_ryda? Ive been trying to find a blue gates belt everywhere, asked repco and supercheap about them but no luck yet

You must have the wrong size.

Different brands and colors will not be different lengths,
I've never encountered a belt out of length, just human error at shops when people cbf'd finding what hook to put them back on.

Also, many books are incorrect and only give you 1-2 engine types whereas belt sizes change from model to model.

IIRC early Holden v6's use a similar belt, maybe 5mm shorter.

Ive had one belt that i know of being the wrong size.

They were landcruiser alt belts. They run duel belts.

both belt the same brand and marked as the same length, (different batch numbers)
one belt was slighty longer and wouldn't get tight

i got it from supercheap off the shelf for $50 which is why i bought it, for ford dohc 4.0 2002 onwards.

at the end of the day i got it on there so i doubt it is the wrong size, theres a fair amount of deflection when you push on the belt between pulley's so i'll see how it goes when it runs in.

have to admit that the blue belt in my engine bay looks fair wanky though. would have to have the existing colour scheme to make it look good, i wish they came in black personally, but my bf is grandpa spec lol

I dont know much about these Gates belts, but if these blue ones are the gates racing belts which i assume they are, they are supposedly a lot stronger, more heat resistant than other normal belts and last longer.. well going by this anyway.. http://www.gatesracing.com/belt.cfm

ok kewl. I mean the normal belts last awhile anyway if looked after properly. When i had my other EF, it lasted on mine for about 85,000 kms and after that i dont know as i sold it :(

yer i think at the end of the day if the gates racing ones do what their talked up to they would outlast the car, i've heard of all different prices for the motorcraft ones (which are a fine belt) and when browsing the other day picking up stuff for my 95-100k-km service i saw them and grabbed the last one. for reliability rather than aesthetics. my 'old' belt wasn't even halfway worn judging by the tensioner, just want to replace everything for service.

i've done roughly 100k's now and the tensioner is still hard up against the stop.. no dramas so far though.
