The car: 1990 EA II SPack, 300,000k's, Head just replaced, as well as diff with ED parts, New shocks all round.. Needs new brakes, and suspension looked at theres something not right with it...

Just went to see my NEW mechanic to get a price on replacing the timing chain and tensioner.... $500 for that, thats taking off the timing case and making sure everything in there is A OK... Only trouble is he told me that due to the last mechanic f**k up the timing chain and wrecking it and the tensioner, there is something to do with the distributor that is probably worn also, and to fix this the engine needs to be taken apart and might as well do a rebuild while its apart... At a cost of about $3000...

What are peoples thoughts on this one... Rebuild, secondhand engine... Drive it into the ground... If it were your car what would you do ?

**My current situation doesnt allow for me to get a loan, as my work contract runs out in 3 weeks and im unemployed after that at the moment...**

Drive it into the ground man... then when the motor goes, grab a second handy from a wreckers for $1k ~ $1.5k.
I went for a rebuild on my EA, it was the stupid option, never felt the same again... plus they made me upgrade all my cooling system etc, otherwise I had no warranty.

Your best bet would be to see how many times to can go sideways before you crash it and then push it into the closest river.
A car with 300k sounds like a lot of parts will be worn, cooling system for one.

I'd recommend saving up for an ED/EF for 3-5 grand.
