g'day
i live in the norhtern suburbs of melbourne and was just wondering if people could recommend somewhere good to give my EL Fairmont a tune up as it is idling pretty rough and probably needs a tune. i dont want to take it somewhere and get ripped off! Pascoe Vale Motors said $50 for a tune (to hook on the comp. and have a look whats wrong).

ive seen alot of EF/ELs play up and its due to dodgy/dirty injectors. might not be the cause of yours but well worth looking at

I know this is a thread about mechanics.. but have you tried cleaning you ISC? Also could be just in a desperate need of a service (ie plugs, leads, cap, rotor, etc...)..

Just a thought. But as for a mechanic.. I don't live down there, and can't tell you. But $50 to just have a look doesn't sound like something Id pay. But I don't go to mechanics anyway, so meh.

Cheers

unfortunatly diagnostic time gets charged out as part of the job.

it might only take 15mins to fix but if took an hour to find......

and so if they spend 45mins checking the car over then you have to pay.
nothing is free.

as for the problem at hand. it's most likly just in need of a good service.

I wasn't saying that mechanics are bad or are in the bad.. just to average joe $50 seems like alot for just checking IMO.

Cheers

$60 is the going rate to use the diagnostic scanner, so $50 seems reasonable
