I am looking into getting a new exhaust system, from headers to tip... And have decided to probably not get a hi-flow cat, but I still want a nice sounding exhaust note, from what I've read on here, a few people have said the cat makes a big difference to the sound and loudness of the exhaust? So I'm kind of stuck... Can anyone clear this up for me?

Regardless of the cat, changing the mufflers will change the noise.
Whats the car? Cats probably falling apart inside by now anyhow.

It's a '94 EF Fairmont. The exhaust was done for the RWC, and as far as I can tell, I think the cat was replaced as well as both mufflers, but I'm just going off my observations... Here are some pics from underneath, maybe someone could tell me what work appears to have been done...

I wasn't claiming it to be anything but stock... As in my first post I am planning to replace the exhaust system, the pics were posted to see if someone could tell if it does in fact have a new cat (as tossing up whether to include a hi-flow cat in my exhaust work... It looks new to me, but obviously there are a lot more people on here that are alot more knowledgeable than me on here...

But yeah anyways, your exhaust sounds pretty sweet. Do you believe that the new cat changed the note?

ah sorry yeah it was a bit obvious it was stock lol.

it dosent look like a new cat to me, more so a 2nd hand one from the wreckers or sumthing.

if you have a look at the other exhaust video in my album, thats with a gutted cat. the notes not that much different.

Yeah, fair enough, might see if I can get further info from the seller maybe... Either way, back onto topic, whats the verdict... Do Hi-flow cats improve exhaust sound?

well i should think it would due to the better flow, not sure if its worth the cost though, i believe an AU cat flows the same and is a LOT cheaper.

It would be strange for them to replace the cat with a genuine Ford one (as the one in the picture is a genuine Ford one), as I would say they would be a lot dearer than an aftermarket universal one.

depend on how loud you want for sensible sound (ie cops don't hassle you) get a 2.5 from the cat back with a reduced middle muffler and a hotdog on the backfor about 400 - 600. for really loud and good basis for upgrade about a grand for a cheapie to about 3 grand for good quality will get you full 2.5 system with hi-flo cat and extractors.

WTF are you on howsie, $3k for an Exhaust, I'm not even spending that on a 5L AU Exhaust (Headers, cats, twin 2.5" system)

my mates dad payed that for his system on his AU XR6.

Just putting worse case scenario in perspective hence why i said about a grand to 3 grand. most full exhausts like what you getting cost between 1000 -1500
