Hey
I have tried using the search but i couldnt find anything.
I was just wondering if anyone knew the number of a good wreckers in or around canberra as my brothers BA XR8 manual ute needs a tailshaft cos the centre bearing has **** itself. If anyone could help that would be great cos Ford are asking $3,000 for it to be done and the extended warrenty only covers the first $1,000.

Any help would be great

Griffo

You won't find a wrecker in Canberra that has anything for a BA. Macathur spares in Narrellen would be the closest. Try repco for a replacment bearing.

Yea i tried Macathur spares in Narrellen but they came up empty. I have tried heaps of places the only place that has one is Ferntree on this site and it is out of a Pursuit Ute for $850 plus about $100 for postage.
I have been told that you cant just replace the bearing but i am going to assume that you can and try Repco tomorrow.
If anyone ones anymore about this please let me know

I cant believe that the bearing can't be replaced. Try Ford spares first and see if it is listed as a spare or only as an assembly. Failing that then perhaps a custom tailshaft could work out cheaper.

It my brothers ute and it has extended warrenty but that only covers the first 1000 bucks but anyway i used to work at McGrath Ford so when we took it in there to get worked on i asked for the to guys that i know aint dodgie to work on it and when we went back to pick it up i asked him what was wrong and he said the centre bearing is stuffed, by that stage there was no bearing the tailshaft was just floating around in the loop.
Anyway he sadi that you cant just buy the centre bearing you have to replace the whole thing and Ford was trying to charge 3,000 for it. Everyone we have talked to goes that f**k s**t. Its a 5minute job to get out so the tailshaft must be f**k expensive.
Ill stop reambling and just say that he has called some joints and they recon it will be about 1,000 bucks for custon made one.
So we just have to see which one to get now

Also i think the custom one will be a single pieace tailshaft not dual so what do people think about this??? any good or not??

If you could get a two piece tailshaft, it should be better with less potential for vibration.
Bloody Ford and their prices!

How about an AU ute tailshaft or a wagon one, would they fit?
A single peice one should be OK up to 180KPH so provided your not track racing all should be good.

The BA XR's should have an alloy one i assume, like the EF/EL XR's did.
The only reason is if you lower the ute, the tailshaft could hit the floor of the tray (i think). I know mine will hit under hard acceleration now. SO the two piece can help solve that problem.

Will an XR6 Turbo tailshaft be the same length and everything as an XR8???

I would think so. But it would pay to check if he has one.
