If it's a 4 speed auto, the biggest problem you have against a commo, is the very tall 1st gear.

The only way around this is to shorten the diff (or convert to a manual, 6spd auto).

This will provide the extra acceleration you'll need. The downside is increased fuel consumption.

Other options as already mentioned, intake, exhaust + extractors, and a tune.

However, the LS1/2's mod up easily and cheapy into weapons, so if it's anything but stock, you won't have a chance.

a grand will be eaten up with just 2.5 mandrel bent exhaust and a good set of headers.

flash tuners start at 500 from capa, and then you have to pay for a custom tune somewhere. I dont how he will get intake, exhaust with headers, and tune for a grand. you would budget 2 and a half for an exercise like that and get the quality stuff.

best bfyb mod is your diff gears unless its a 6 speed. go 3.45 or higher, either 3.7:1, 3.89:1 and 4.11:1

recomend 3.45-3.89 if you do any highway driving at all. my au sits on 2550 rpm with 3.89 gears at 110kmh, and pulls about 60 k's in first.

You're right it's all way over a grand.

But if he wants to beat a ~1600KG VX SS with better gearing, in a ~1800KG BF I6, he's going to need a fair bit of work.

my mate did the ss induction bigmouth, extractors. 2 1/2 inch exhaust, in his ba and it ran 15.56 and got 202 rwhp and i think thats close to standard. so in conclusion SS induction= waste of $500

it was a ridiculous question? You could run the same car on different dyno's and get a significant difference. I would say the increase you got would be lucky to even be comparable in a before and after dyno run on a stock car if not done on the same day/dyno/temperature/alignment of planets

Intake is one of the worst bang for your buck mods, particularly on such a new car where the filter is relatively clean anyway. You could make a CAI with negligable difference to an SS Inductions one for 1/5 of the price.

get extractors instead of lowering. It's the factory headers that suck more than the rest of the exhaust.
