Wasnt there a greeny/grey looking tappet cover around early on in the EA/B series life maybe the 3.2lt.
After rebuilding a motor I used to paint tappet covers and air cleaners a heratige green.
I only started doing that because the tappet cover's and air cleaners were made of tin
and would of started pealing the origanil paint off by then and I had 10lt's off the green from work.

The green rocker covers came out signifying LPG in the AU series onwards. It was the factory built dedicated gas motor (ie. not dual fuel). They still use them today on new gas vehicles.

As for earlier models, there was no dedicated gas motor built by ford, only a tickford dual fuel system which was a factory option. I don't recall them having a different colour rocker cover on the ef/el series, the option was listed on the tickford plate under the bonnet.

As for eb/ed, and nc series fairlanes, this was before my time selling fords.

It may have just been a factory dressing painting them green.

Cheers

Warren.

My mum has a '92 Fairlane (is this NC?) with the green, Tickford embossed rocker cover.

It doesn't have any of the sportsman decals or pinstriping, and is totally stock. It is petrol-only fuelled, has never had LPG.

It's an excellent car, you can hit 100mph in the blink of an eye! Tell your mate to watch out Busso!

(Funny story, the first week she got it, she put the boot in while it was raining and went down the main drag sideways! She came home complaining to the old-man that the car was playing up and the ABS was making her do burnouts...! A quick tutorial in braking vs. accelerative traction loss was required!)
