My OH has a 98 EL wagon 275000 km which when compared with my 96 EF wagon 195000 km has no guts plus it's using more fuel. I have replaced the plugs and air filter but it made no difference, it runs fine but the lack of power worries me. Any ideas as to the problem??

And if the other answers don't fix it, can't hurt to check the cat convertor

Does the EL drive fine, other than being gutless and chewing fuel?

If everything checks out, and it being a 98 model, its possibly a hybrid in which case therein lies the answer.

I'm talking about stock hybrids...

And it does have everything to do with it. You must be the only one in the world that thinks a hybrid is quicker than the previous motors.

Engine runs fine bar gutless and high fuel consumption and it has the hybrid motor. I also have 2 EF sedans , my daughters and one spare with over 300,000 km on the clock which blow the EL away. I'll check the dizzi first but now it's mentioned 20 years ago my XC falcon had the same problem when the muffler was blocked...........Thanks for the advice :D
