so my car wasnt running great then it s**t itself the other day.
(3.9 i6 auto lpg)
symptoms:
blowing smoke/steam from zorst
running real ruff
oil/water mixed
(recently put oil in)

so im thinking its either head or maybe manifold gasget or maybe a cracked head. (im an absolute noob when it comes to engines) ????

if it is. how much should it cost to get fixed??? (currently at mechanics)

cheers
Ben

well its gonna be either a head gasket or a crack (more likely a gasket though) Getting the gasket replaced by a mechanic may cost you anywhere from between $600 - $1000 depending where you go, $300 if you do it yourself and get someone to reco the head. or $50 if you do everything yourself including doing a s**t job on your head (which I wouldn't recmmend).

yeh, well you would probably want to put in a later engine like an EL engine or something. Now i'm assuming you have a 3spd auto, not sure if you would need to change that to either a 4spd auto or 5 spd manual. Also if your current engine is CPI instead of MPFI, you will definately notice a difference in power between your old and new. As a rough guess, I would say $1500 installed.

probably not, they come with a guarantee (i think :? ) and AU motors are bullet proof. They have a metal headgasket and tougher head bolts and a stonger bottom end.

I was told by 'rushed' that an AU engine is just about as difficult to install as a BA engine as the K frame has to be modifed, and yes, the ED will be a straight bolt on, not sure about setting up smart lock but just wait till 'stockstandard' comes on, he'll give you a definate answer.

The AU engine is harder to put into an EF/EL as far as i know but the EA-ED should be much easier. There was an AU engine for 550 on EBay with a guarantee....but freight cost would have cost me 250...so 800 all together. but can't remember if it was reconditioned or not though it did 90xxxkms or so.
