All this talk of head gaskets just wondering
how many Km's has every one done before head gasket goes and what is the most amount of Km's before people have had them go?

Im going on 219000 Kms on the original head

Yeah, but 295k very easy k's. Have a look at it and a drive and you can tell it has done a LOT of highway k's (plus i've known the car since new). And it's a hybrid as well, which seem to have a bit better reputation than the standard ELs.

yep the last 100k was highway driving in mine. brother had it since 70k and it use to be a Q fleet car before then, i got at 119k and now got 219k but the first 50k when i got it was kinda driven a little hard. ming u i did get the temp into the red once at about 125k on the clock and its had very minor weepage from the head since then but no problemss with the motor otherwise.

I bought the EA with about 100 000 ks on it and did one at about 200 000 not sure if it had blown one before i got it I dont think so but not sure.
The ferrule part of the gasket had eroded away at the cylinder edge.
Our EL has just clocked over 100 000 no problems
The guy over the road blew one in his EL yesterday I asked him how many k's he said 130 000.

is it just luck of the draw or is it lack of maintnance or attention that causes them to go.

both.
Not putting right coolant in etc helps, but it's just a weakness with the i6 motor.

Have also heard ppl on here saying that the ford torque specs on the head bolts arn't tight enough. Tho i would think they would have worked that out when building the engine (unless it's a design feature to make them 1500 bucks after 150k - 250k km's)
