Hi all

I need to get a head surfaced in preparation for doing the head gasket on Rach's EF Mont but have no idea where to take it. Can anyone in Sydney recommend a good place in the west of Sydney to take it to and an expected cost? I am hoping to do the gasket this weekend, that's if I haven't left this bit a tad late for that.....

Cheers
RD

You can have that head you gave me back as a spare for Justin (case).
Hang on to the head coming off - if you could - I'd like a few valves out of it, if that's possible.

Might be a plan dude, thanks....

The one that comes off is for SWC, I have his spare to get surfaced prior to the changeover :(

One other Q.....

Do they do the surfacing with the valves in or do they usually need them out? Out means I will have to find my damn spring compressor...... but then again I would probably do a valve grind and replace the stem seals anyway.....

No, I'll keep the head - need to get the valves (couple of inlets) from somewhere - just didn't want to pull them from a good head.

Just gave Steve a call at Windsor Recos.... damn nice guy. Gave me lots of tips on prepping the head before surfacing to ensure it works as intended when put back on.

First up I am going to drop the valves out and do a quick lap to see how the seats come up, if they don't I'll get them all recut by Windsor Reco. Might as well as I need Rach's car to be ultra reliable and with this work it'll go for years....

Head surfacing is about $88.00; surfacing, valves recut and lapped with new stem seals, about $250.00. Not too bad in my eyes...

Cheers
RD

Hmmm, thanks buddy.... I'll give them a buzz too and see what they can do valve work for as well......

you can't go wrong using Windsor engine reconditioning, Steve is very thorough with engines.
I know I shouldn't do it and I should of learnt my lesson but revving to 6000rpm sounds good, he laughs when I tell him and says "damn good engine build"
