I am a newbie to this forum. I own a 94 model ED Futura sedan which has just got a small water leak coming from where i think is the head gasket under the exhuast manifold side of the engine.
My usual mechanic is booked solid for the next month and was wanting to know if any other members had a suggestion for a knowledgable mechanic in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne who i can talk too.
I want to get this sorted as quickly as possible and any info would be very much appreciated.

can you take a picture of the water leak? if your radiator fluid level suddenly dropped recently (or if there is a chockolate milkshake in your oil) you have a blown headgasket

I have recently replaced the oil and it definately wasnt milky. I have also checked the water and it seems to have no trace of oil. It seems to be just a small leak from the side of the motor near the head/block join. My usual mechanic says that the head gasket has deteriorated which has caused the leak. The engine still runs smooth, has smooth idle and the water level does drop but not rapidly. I check it every couple of days and top it up about once a week, not much quantity of water.

my head gasket was leaking for over 90 000 km under the exhaust manifold towards back of the motor. gasket never effected the running of the car just had to top up coolant once every 1- 2 weeks. about 100-200ml. eventualy replaced the gasket at 220k to stop it getting worse. i expected problems when i first noticed the leak but never ran into any. so as long as there is no traces of coolant in the oil you may be right for a little while just get it done eventually.
