A while ago some one was asking what people were using or doing for a heat shield so I thought I would pull me finger out and show you all.
Image That is the top of the heat shield.
Image That is the top of the heat shield.
Image That is how it is mounted.
Image That is it mounted on the ute.
Image That is underneath.
The underneath is layered with heat tape to keep the heat out. What do you think?

MIG. Yeah does the job to no more melted throttle cables.

It looks very proffessional eveytime I look at it. So the idea with heat shields is to stop heat from coming off the exhaust and reducing bay engine temps, so how does the heat tape work?

Well it soaks up the heat and has reflective tape on it also. Dont think it will keep bay temps down that much but it does stop the heat getting dirrectly onto the brake booster and melting the throttle cable.

ahh, true that, and also stop paint inside the bay peeling as well.

I made a heat sheild like that once with strips of exhaust wrap and heat tape with and metal...

and it caught on fire and nearly blew my car up.

mind you it was on a turbo manifold.. :roll:

I thought mine was too but the residue of the tape caught on fire.. dropped off and set a spark plug lead on fire..

meh. you'll be fine. Just reminded me of being on the side of the road with the bonnet up pissing on my own engine to put out and engine fire.. :oops:

i just refitted the factory one after giving it a new paint job. easy peasy and didn't need to weld studs onto my extractors.
