Does anyone have the correct tool to remove the AU Balancer? - mine doesnt have any bolt holes for the nice cheap removers.

I saw the tool at Autobarn, but its almost $200. I only need it for about 5 minutes to pull the balancer so I can do the front oil seal

Anyone?

Nigel

Thanks. I found a local "mobile mechanic" around the corner had the tool.

He removed the balancer, and replaced the seal for me for the cost of the callout.

Too easy.

$75. Him, His tool, and new seal installation.

The tool is $186 at Autobarn... Saw it, thought id never use it the three times it would take.

this might sound dodgy but it worked like a charm

i undid the bolt and hit it with hammer a few time to crack the seal then use to pry bars one each side of the hamonic balancer and pushed and get some one to softly tap the harmonic balancer and it comes off.

best to do the job from under the car and get someone to do the tapping from above.

yeah i guess u should only "tap" it and not bash it...else the thrust bearing might get damaged

The outer cast iron ring isn't very strong either. I wasn't doing anything serious yet managed to chip some metal off one when i was removing if from a wrecked motor, which of course ruins the balance if nothing else, game over.

Oh dear - breaking the teeth of isnt good. Thats your timing sensor triggers!. They come on a new balancer though dont they?

The easiest way is to have the fan belt on, and hold the fan belt still while you undo the bolt. If that doesnt work, a rattle gun, or, you can remove the started and jam the ring gear.
