hey guys ive got a bit of a problem.. i just took my ea engine out to fit my ef xr6 tickford engine but the problem lyes with the bbm and ecu as i want to use the ef ones.. some1 said the ecu wont fit (havent checked yet) and im under the impression i have to cut and rewire some wires for the bbm. im also going to use the same dizzy (unless i dont need to)
diagrams and pics would be really helpful if any1 has them.

get a complete EL loom and dizzy. while your steeling bits from an EL grab all the gear to set up the thermo fans and the BBM. check the tech docs all the info is there.

You could follow in the footsteps of someone who's done this before.

ford-4l-and-6-cylinder-f1/benj-s-el-engine-conversion-t61171.html?hilit=el%20motor%20into%20eb

I found using a modified EA loom easier when it came to connections for my EF engine. You will have to run extra wires to activate the vacuum solenoid for the BBM.

You must use an EL ECU to run the dizzy. An EF ECU has more pins and won't even plug in physically.

You can mod your log manifold wiring loom to interface with the EF/EL TPS and ICS.

Then add the relevant pins to your EA ECU plug for the smartlock and BBM switching so you can add the required wires to hook up the smartlock bypass module and the BBM Switching Solenoid.

The link above to my old engine conversion thread should give you all the info you need.

Good Luck
BenJ

You can get a smartlock bypass module off Ebay. Just search for Smartlock Bypass.

If you look through the link in my thread, there is pics etc of the wiring changes needed.

Shortshift put the link up to my Engine conversion thread already.

That is about all the info I have. You will need to work a fair bit of it out yourself. I used all my research as a Guide and verified all the mods myself while doing them.

Cheers

I read BenJ's writeup several times (along with others) before doing the engine swap. It would be handy if you can look at an EF or EL as a reference.

Try and get another ECU plug and 150mm of the loom because you'll need extra wires for the BBM switching, etc. If you can't find any info after using 'Search', I can PM you a few photos.

As for the engine loom, lay out the EA loom next to the EF and work out what needs to lengthened. Use heat shrink to seal any soldered joints. The BBM switching solenoid can be fitted behind the windscreen washer bottle.

tonight i sourced a el manual ecu and managed to take out the loom straight from the ecu to the bbm so i can plug it straight into the ecu and bbm hopefully.. unless theres something im unaware of (most likely) i havent checked yet but is there wires in the dash that are on the same loom coz there is two plugs that can plug together but i doubt its that easy so im guessing theyre in the dash somewhere... i can post pics up if your unsure about what i mean..
ill get some tomorrow morning

ok heres a few pics of the loom and what plugs i mean..
complete loom:

dash plugs:

so if i put the ef dash in i can just run the ef loom in the dash and plug it up to the two plugs above which will save me cutting the loom correct?
i also found out that the ecu i got last night isnt from a el its from a ef  so its the same as i have except in manual but if i run the same ecu loom it should be right yea?
and if i put the ef dash in can i run the whole dash loom and it will just plug up? coz i know benj put the original eb loom in his dash and just cut and rewired plugs.
