so the timing case decides to crack and needs replacing. i have removed everything but the crank pulley as it is a pain in the a** to get off. is there an easy way of doing this? i have been trying to pry it out for bout 45min with no sucess, and yes i did take the bolt out aswell.

getting sideways, I am about to attack my hbp and would like to know if I use two, or three bolts and if 2, which 2. there 3 different lengths. Too many choices always confuses me.

You need a Harmonic balancer puller......how did the timing cover crack?
This is a pic of my tooling for those jobs, the puller, a bolt to pull the balancer back on, and a seal installer. I made them, except for the bolt.

getting sideways, I not trying to hijack this thread but am changing the hbp off an EL so I can fit an EF one with the toothed cog using the same puller you show in your first reply to this post. From the looks of your picture of your puller, and a mighty fine puller it looks too, I would be using 3 bolts?

I bought my puller 2 days ago from Repco.
Only problem with the kit was it only had 2 3/8th bolts and needed 3. Simple fix was to go buy 3 bolts from the hardware store.

I dodgied up a balancer puller, using a timing chain cog and some bolts from the shed. The holes all lined up perfectly.

quick question do you need to remove the raditor to fit the puller in to pull the balancer off?

depends on the length of the bolt that goes through the center of the puller. You might get away with just removing the fans and serpentine belt. Not a lot of room to work tho.

I was using that tool back when ED's were under warranty with oil leaking up the keyway. Had to remove the balancer and glue up the keyways. Had to do the EF1's too. My tool doesn't require the removal of the radiator...just the fan/fans.
