Got a mate stuck on the side of the road just outside of Ballarat. Car is an EL XR6. Says he was just cruising at 110 when it just died. They've tried changing the brown relay under the coolant resevoir as it has no spark and no fuel pump. That relay is not clicking. The BCM has been thumped many times  . Has come to the conclusion that it is an ECU problem??? Can anyone tell me if the ECU from a GLI or whatever will make the bastard go so he can get home? Or any other ideas? Need to know by 12 as I will be going to work and then heading off to rescue him at 9:30 tonite.
Cheers for any info

Could also be TFI module dying if there is no spark. If that thing dies you will be stranded. Could also be coil.

Not 100% sure on the ECU, but I am sure it won't cause any damage for a short period of usage. If you can use an XR6 ECU in a GLi, I am sure you can do it vice versa (assuming both are of the same transmission type).

Any loose earth wire?

He's tried a new coil, new dizzy, leads etc. Apparently the rotor button was absolutely stuffed. He's had a mechanic looking at it and he believes that the rotor button has shorted and cooked the ecu. The thing cranks but has no spark and no fuel pump. They've tried other ecus in it to no avail

Yup. I'm leaning towards a dodgy wire somewhere. He's organised for someone to come and pick him up with a car trailer

definitely no fuses in the cabin? e.g. crt fuse, bcm, maybe's next stop.
Unusual but It's not 2 problems e.g. the fuel pumps kicked it as something else has been dieing?, have you checked theirs no voltage at the fuel pump?

I thought of that. If it's that serious he's better off getting it home (300 odd ks away). He's checked all fuses (including the big bastards under the bonnet). If it's the BCM he's got a spare.....but it's at home  . Checked all the earths. I just had a brainwave. Under the bonnet there is a relay that runs the ecu. Can anyone tell me what colour it is? I have a max ellerys but a mate has it
