Hi,

I have recently put a new motor in my EL, reco bottom end, balanced, new distributor / module, new plugs, new temp sender and oil pressure switch.

It has been timed and run in, but went for a short drive in it on friday, it stopped, and has not started again, smells very fuely from the exhaust, checked for spark, it is fine.

Converted to manual 2 years ago, manual Ecu.

Some sort of sensor, maybe? any ideas? Ecu?

This happened once when i was runnng the motor in, left it for a day, checked and adjusted the timing and it had run fine since.

Any help would be appreciated.

coil?

You need a good spark, not just a spark.

What new distributor was fitted? If you used a cheap aftermarket distributor, did you replace the drive gear with the one off your old distributor. If not, cheap aftermarket distributors are known to use a faulty stainless drive gear which can chew out your auxilary shaft drive gear.Classic symptom is engine will start and drive for a short period, then run rough and stop, and wont restart.Pull off distributor cap,and turn rotor button by hand,if rotor button has excessive play or turns freely, this is your problem. Also check for cracks between the 2 mounting bolts on ignition coil.

Thanks guys

Yeah I'm hoping its just a cracked coil, although it could be the dizzy drive

Could it be the map sensor?

Hope to have a look at it tomorrow

Will keep you posted

Faulty map sensor will usually make it run rich, use heaps of fuel and blow black smoke.

Not running problem fixed, it was the rotor button, somehow sheared the locator that it sits on on the dizzy shaft, which in turn stuffed the centre pin on the cap too.

Now next problem, after the car revs and goes to idle, it holds the idle at about 1100-1200 revs for about 5-10 seconds, then drops back down to normal. i have changed idle speed motor and cleaned throttle body. Any ideas?

the rev hang is normal, my ef does it and the old ea did it, it's programed into the ecu, something to do with emissions.
