hey guys,
i was all pumped up this morning because it was my first day driving to skool on my P's!!!...

only to be let down by it stalling! :@

it first hapened at the lights standing still, then it wouldnt start. after me and my mate pushed it round the bend and waited a while (flooding) i started and it took off only to stall at the next lights!

it stalled once more on the way to skool but i eventually got there!

then at recess i popped the hood to have a look and check all the levels, everything was fine. it was iddling weird tho, it kept on dropping very low but then reving high.

i left it running for bout 5-10min and it eventually started to idle fine.

on the way home it was almost normal.

i have not drivin it so early in the morning for a long time, i think it mite of been maybe a bad patch of fuel and plus the cold temperature, im hoping its not to big like a fuel pump or o2 sensor.

any help or thoughts guys?

thanks a lot

- Daniel

perhaps the idle speed controller has been disconnected? that sounds a lot like what it could be to me, as the ISC is a big help on cold starts, plus with the poor idling/hunting, esp if the idle has been set slightly too low disconnecting the ISC would cause it to stall

Could be a coil dying on the car.
Have had that happen a few times to me.

I had it start going on me after filling up (thinking it was a bad batch of fuel) ... it was spluttering ... and dropping revs ... stalling ... then starting after a while ... then spluttering a complete stop in the middle of Pacific Hwy in Chatswood in afternoon peak traffic.

A tell tale sign I had was the odd backfire under load ... and felt like running on 4 cyl or less.

Get it checked out ... it's in a bastard of a position though ... under the intake manifold.

u might just have to reset your base idle. i have a ef fairmont and i had bad hunting idle problems. the way i reset my base idle was i unplugged the ecu from the throttle body, (this will pull your idle down to stalling stages) then i turned up the idle and plugged the computer back into the throttle body.
i'm not sure how the eb throttle body setup is like but if it is similar to the ef's thats how you do it.

yeah my brother seems to be having the same problem, not sure wat it is but most likly sounds like the coil, but could be almost anything, its not anything to do with the idle because it runs fine after it throws up a little bit, id change the spark plugs, coil and leads and maybe even the rotor and dizy cap if u wanted to just to see if it fixes the prob

they couldnt find a problem, dont know if that is good or bad!

they cleaned out the throttle body and readjusted the idle.

the mechanic also plugged his computer reader thingie into the computer to see if there were any error readings, which was none!

but the main thing is she is running fine now :)

thanks for the help guys

-Daniel
