Hi

Asking for help on behalf of a mate

He has a 98 fairmont au. He said it's progressively been running worse and worse. With a miss/hesitation getting worse over past few weeks. We tried a few of the main things with no fix as of yet. Hoping for some help

We changed spark plugs
Changed air filter.
Changed fuel filter (after making two trips to super cheap auto as au irs has different fuel filter to non irs)
We put injector cleaner in it

When you rev it up there is an obvious miss, driving it, it lacks power and hesitant to go, with an obvious miss which is constant.

Next on the agenda is go to mechanic for leads to get changed (they are hard to get to) and then what? Petrol pump? Catalytic converter?

Car has 182000km and prob hasn't been maintained the best. Could the motor be buggered?

coil pack is on its way out, best to change leads and coil pack together..
and replace them with new ones, not from a wreck ..

It's much easier to do if you remove the air-box 1st if going at it from above. Also if you can get the car on ramps, do it from underneath.. a lot easier.
Leads about $70, coil pack averages about the $100.
Look around, if you can DIY it, you'll save a bit on labor.
