yep i have an EA SVO Fairmont Ghia and its a 5 speed (very rare apparently).

I'm sure there are those out there that know more about these cars than i do. In fact i am catching up with a bloke who is very cluey on these cars and i'll be sure to get scans of all his brochures and pick his brains some more.

SVO stands for Special Vehicle Operations and is Ford's Performance arm from the states much in the way that Mopar is to Chrysler.

Mick Webb licensed the name for use in Australia. d**k Johnson also had a try at using the SVO name on his XF SVO but a legal challenge upheld Mick Webb's right to the name. http://www.svomotorsport.com/

MW SVO offered options through the dealerships. Basically you could tick all options but it would have left you with very light pockets on top of the price of the new car...hence there aren't all that many of them out there. (try about $32k in 1990 for a SVO falcon).

Mostly applies to EA-EB falcons and late XF to XG utes. I have seen ONE SVO Panel Van (currently at Pick A Part being destroyed) and ONE SVO LTD that flew past me. Most of them are based on S-pac falcons.

*I'll look for production numbers later and edit the post but its something like 1800

It seems to me that Ford essentially copied the look of the SVO's and turned out the XR6/XR8 and the Sprint which cheekily uses the same design wheels! Mind you the SVO is a better drivers car. The mods to the suspension really set them apart from a stock XR6. Engine wise they are supposed to have 160kw but this is disputed. In looking at my own car the engine is nothing special but does haul pretty hard as is.

My car came with books and dealer receipts but not with anything from SVO themselves which shows the options. I bought an original dealer flyer that advertises some of the things that were done to them.

Try to get a copy of Modern Motor June 1989 which did a comparison of the SVO with some other modded cars of the day, an SS commodore and teh APR SR3900. The APR was pretty cool and considered to be a direct rival to the SVO. The APR has KONI's instead of Bilsteins but doesn't get recaro seats. There are some scans avaiable on this web page.

Anyway, my car has these SVO mods:
Two tone paint (indigo blue over metallic grey)
SVO grille
SVO boot spoiler
SVO badges
SVO wheels
SVO torsion bars
SVO fitted Bilstein shocks
SVO modified lower control arms for camber adjustment
SVO Maxiflo extractors/exhaust system
Recaro seats
2 way electric sunroof
Tint
Momo gear knob

Interestingly mine doesn't have:
SVO sticker on the instrument cluster (may have been changed or may not have been done at the time).
Front or rear bumper bar spoilers
Momo wheel (due to retaining cruise control buttons)

Mick never actually 2 toned the EF SVO.
Was yours the one in the yard over the easter suburbs a few years back? The guy that bought it for his son PM'd me on here because it was almost identicle to mine, only it was auto and didn't have the front spoiler.
I sold mine last year after having it 9 years, i do miss it though.

Here are some pics of mine.
You'll see it kicking around over Narrewarren, it doesn't have the rear wing on it anymore.

Hi mate,

If I remember correctly there is an EB (i think) SVO for sale around here in perth. Pretty cheap too.

Maybe some one has or could go and get some photos, I'm a bit too far from him. Sorry mate.

Hmmm. might ring him and ask for some photos. But damn I hate wasting peoples time :P
