car (EL) sometimes wont start (wont crank)...smartlock jewel flashes code 4 :
"Electronic lock a** to BCM connector open, Electronic lock a** I/O circuit open, Electronic lock a** power supply circuit open."

its not the usual dry solder BEM as i tryed that...

is it likely an internal BEM fault, a wiring/connector fault or a barrel fault?

anyone seen it before?

hit where the BCM is and see what it does?

yeah thats what i meant by dry solder joint...thats what the cause is...in this case that didnt help..

Could be any of those - I'd swap the BEM as an initial thing. I'm assuming you're running a low/mid series unit, so should be easy to get a spare for nix. And you can check the loom from the side of the barrel (smartlock is the small 4 pin plug) down the column to the BEM.

yeah its an EL fairmont so high series...I dont have a spare here...

searched through the forum threads and its come up but no-one has posted the solution once they sorted it..

YEP

so far, as far as I know, the car is now behaving itself...all I did was wiggle the BEM connectors and cleaned the plug on the inhibitor switch...will keep this thread posted if prob returns

prob has returned...tried a known good bem...still not fixed, car is playing up more regularly now..
gunna try a known good barrel next..

fitted new barrel today...

car has been good so far...
