the tank being half full - or half empty for that matter is normal.

there was a thread about this just the other day, basically was suggested to drive it up to operating temp. then park it on white concrete and watch. see if you can see a leak.

unless you have access to a pressure tester then you coul pump it up and if your lucky see a hose blow off.

do you ever get steam coming out of your overflow intake pipe? generally head gasket

might try checking for leaks and replacing the pressure cap on the coolant tank ($10) first.

If you have a heat shield on your exhaust remove it and check for white stains on your block.

If you see white stains(that's dried coolant). See where leaking from, either head gasket or welsch plug.

cheers.

Cap, Radiator, Hoses, Welsh Plugs, Heater core, Heater tap, Thermostat housing, Head, Head gasket, too name a few possiblities.

And No you shouldn't lose coolant under normal circumstances.

yeah you shouldnt be losing any

its a closed system with no where to go except round and round.

even over 6000kms it shouldnt lose anyway (via normal driving that is....they do sometimes push some through the overflow pipe when driven hard)

It's not a closed system. falcons do not run a recovery system.

by closed i meant it doesnt 'use' water, ie burn it or something. its supposed to go from radiator, round engine back to radiator. it shouldnt lose any unless its got a leak somewhere

nor do i tim.

Could the loose cap effect the operating temp as well? It was running a bit hotter then normal on the way up. But this was before i opened the bottle and notcied it had no coolent in there
