How much would it cost to replace the inlet manifold gasket on an EF Falcon.
I have not got a clue. My friend is a mechanic and I am prepared to pay him well but I haven't got a clue how much. This is a perk job that he's going to do at my house. Any help appreciated. Thanks. |

The manifold itself is like $20 bucks or so,
some of the bolts are a pain to get to but if your mate is any good shouldn't take more than 2 hours. |

i had to do mine.
yeah its about $20 a bit hard towards the end. more time than anything. the last bolts are the worst. |

Yeah I have the new gasket and sealant, just want to know how much to pay my mate for his labour...any ideas.

If he is a good mate, he will do it for free.
The bolts are a PITA to reach, I tried to tighten mine and couldn't reach them all.... Might try a bent spanner. |

Shops would charge $100-$200, i think a slab usually covers it for mates

What does everybody use to reach the difficult bolts? The bottom ones at the back are impossible. Tried a long ringy, and even a uni joint socket, no good. Mine misses slightly at idle sometimes, I tightened all the bolts I could reach but couldn't get them all....

Stubby ratchet spanner from underneath will do the job well for you. reaching up just like you are changing leads. if it gets too tight for you, take the starter motor out and there will be heaps of room.

I use a ratchet ring spanner to get the last bolts, so much easier than a standard ring spanner or socket. I removed the complete cold air intake assembly and also disconnected the engine wiring loom to give me more room. Some bolts can be attacked from the top via the gaps in the BBM. I put one arm underneath and one hand holding the spanner at the top and guide the spanner onto the bolt, crack it open a few times (probably takes about 10 mins to do
 ) and then undo it with my fingers if I got enough grip. Took me about an hour and a half last time I did that. As said before, if he is a good mate, he'll do it for free or a slab.

Those 10mm ratchet spanners are worth their weight in gold for taking the manifold off.

Yes for sure, ratchet spanners are the go.
Give your mate a carton of beer and if thats not enough give him a slap in the head to set right his attitude problem

1/4" drive socket or 10mm ring spanner is what I used when I did the headgasket. Would have loved a 10mm ratchet spanner though, I went into Bunnings a day or two after and they were only $11 for a Kincrome one.
I'd just supply him with beer and food while he's doing it, maybe a 6 pack afterwards to take home. Its a pretty simple job to undo then redo a bunch of 10mm bolts. |

I have a Flexible extension bar that i got from autobahn worked a treat on the last few bolts but was no good at tightening up, had to use a ring spanner that had a small bend on it
