Spark Plug Part No. Plug Gap
Recommended Plug ZGR6B-11 1.1

might as well spash out and get some new plugs

Do yourself a favour and check the preset gap as well. So, so easy for the pre-gap to be disturbed.

about the $100.00 mark... you just unscrew it and disconect the wires at the plug and reverse to fit the new one.

My EF xr6 has motorcraft leads... what are the chances they are the original leads?? its done 180000km...

My EL Ghia V8 had done 190,000km when I started having bad fuel consumption and poor performance, so I started doing the following:

1. replaced my plugs - did not fix it.
2. cleaned MAF sensor - did not fix it.
3. cleaned ISC valve - did not fix it.
4. checked Oxygen sensor and can't bloody clean anything.
5. replaced air filter - improved a little bit.
6. replaced plug leads and cleaned distributor cap - Alleluia !!!!

I used 8.0mm EAGLE leads from PEPS Auto and fuel consumption improved from ~20.5L/100km to ~13.2L/100km.

I hope this helps in finding out your problem.

I'm not sure if you are using MAF sensor. I have read somewhere in this groups that I6 uses MAP sensor and it might be different. Anyway here are some of the links that will give you an idea of how to clean MAF sensor.

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cleanmaf.htm
http://www.muscularmustangs.com/maf.php

cleaning distributor cap on V8 is easy but i dont know how it is done on I6. Distributor cap normally has a guide that will allow you to put it back to its original position. Once you removed the cap, inspect all the metal plates and gently clean them up with 1200 grade sand paper. Mine was so dirty that most of the plates had a build up of white carbon. After cleaning mine i immediately felt a big gain in power.

with regards to making your own leads, make sure that the resistance is within specs as each of the leads differ in length.

My EF doesn't have a distributor, so it's not that...

I might splash out on a new set of leads...

Funny thing, when I replaced a lead a while back (i broke it :( ) I counted 7 leads...

They had obviously replaced a lead and left the old one there...

u wanted to know where the fuel filter is. well the fuel filter is on the passenger side of the car underneath the rear passenger side door. its not too hard to replace but if u do replace it make sure there arent any leaks after it. had to put some rubber washers in that came with the valvoline fuel filter and stopped the fuel leak i kinda had. hope that helps.

u will need 2 spanners. not sure what size though.

good luck

well i got new bosch spark leads for 35 bux (bought them seperately) from SuperCheapo. had to buy 7 seperate ones cause the pack was selling for like 50 bux or something. i dunno why.

and spark plugs NGKs would cost u about 20 bux a pack of 6? for generic types and then u have the iridium which will be about 100 or something. dont quote me on those prices. asked for them when they just came out.
