Hey FM. Not sure where to put this (more than likely off topic...)

I'm after an FG 6. Not too fussed if it's an XT or XR or G6 etc.
My only qualm is that I do want the ZF 6sp. Now, I've noticed that some of the FG's in the ads I've found say that it's a 4sp... which is mighty confusing as NONE of the FG's ever had the option of a 4speed seeing as the BF MKII got rid of them. I've also noticed that some of the XR's, G6's and G6E's have a leather strip up the centre of the shifter if it's a ZF, yet some don't???

So my question is, how do I tell if it's a 6sp just by looking at the vehicle. If I were to test drive the vehicle, I could tell straight away by just using tiptronic and going up to 6th.

From what I know of them the 6 speed ZF has a 6 speed badge on the centre console next to the shifter.

I'll have a quick squiz through the ones that I see. How big is this tag, and is it noticeable from a s**t angle shot (eg. shot coming from driver or passenger door looking into car)??

It's pretty small, it's on the auto shifter surround. Google it so you know what we're talking about it... It's about 15mmx40mm maybe... Been a while since I've seen one. Just says 6 speed on it.

only b-series had the badge on the surround

FG just has the black stripe on the shifter handle. The earlier 6 speed XT's (when it was still an option) are usually police packs, which also come with XR suspension & LSD. Police pack's have an indent in the dash next the screen

there were heaps for sale a few months ago all around 15k, with about 50,000km. Now there is hardly anything......... it all depends when the gov sells off their fleet which usually goes to the dealers.

i did manage to find a couple though as an example.

http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/detai ... 0-13727851
this dealer doesnt even know its a 6 speed....
http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/detai ... 0-13367845
http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/detai ... 0-13610914

Run the VIN through ford Etis, and expand feautres list to confirm

btw FG's did come out with 4 spds

When you test drive the car, the 5 speeds will up shift 4 times, and 6 speeds will up shift 5 times.
you only need one hand to count on too.

Thank you so much for that info!

Ticky, if only I could test drive them all lol

And I'm pretty certain the only fg that had 4sp now that I remember were the lpg 3 seater utes with column shift?
