My alternator belt is quite loose, last time I went to tighten it I noticed the adjuster on it had been tightened wrong and stripped the teeth off the bracket.
I got a replacement and had it installed. Now the belt is loose again and I don't want to strip the teeth tightening it. How do you tighten it propperly? |

you loosten the top 13mm bolt a little and turn the 25mm nut thats behind it clock wise to tension up the belt,
while holding the tension with the large spaner you do up the 13mm bolt to lock it in position.. most people f**k it up by trying to turn the big nut without loosening the small locking bolt first.. |

Don't you mean anti-clockwise. Or is it clockwise.

I use 2 spanners at once, a 13mm and a 24mm. While moving the 24mm nut, hold the 13mm bolt still.
What happens is while you are turning the 24mm nut, the 13mm bolt comes undone, leting the 24mm nut ride up the teeth on the bracket, and stripping them.
