Hey guys just starting to bolt together my forged bottom end for my new turbo setup. I bought all the gear unassembled at an extremely good price, it came with a ported head with oversized exhaust valves however it's got 'HTP' in big letters cast to the front of the head. Also on the rear of the head there is quite a deep thread as you can see in the second photo, I have no idea what this is for.
Have you guys heard of or had any experience with these heads?

My guess is that it's an Au head, au's have a temp sensor in the back of the head. It's got something to do with the cylinder shut down mode they have. My understanding is that when the temp gets to high the mixture will richen and help to cool cylinder temps thus preventing the dreaded blown head gasket.

hey TickfordXR I have the same head
  it is indeed a AU Head has the previous owner told me that's what I mechanic that fix it at the time said he put on (head gasket leak), hench why I also have a AU Gasket already. only problem I've had with mine recently was getting the power steering bracket back on, the one at the rear top is for some reason slightly to the left and wont let me screw the bolt in when others are in, have to put that one in first then the rest and its not easy have to force the bracket to move with it in which I don't like etc.

Awesome, Thanks for the help guys. At least I know what I'm dealing with now, Looks like the sensor hole doesn't go all the way through to the water jacket but I'll put a bolt/sensor in it anyway.

So I don't have to touch or modify the back of the head at all?

mine seems to have that plate still, is it bad if TickfordXR's is off?

By the picture mine still has the plate on it behind the wax looking thing.. I think what they mean by falling off is the orange wax thing, that falls off when the head over heats.

no thats the head welch plug.. the round disc has fallen off your one..
it is a round disc that has waranty void if removed.. i still have one on the side of my head |

Hmmm well it's a brand new head, never been used so I cant see it fell off from over heating. Should I just pull the orange s**t off?
