hi, just wanting to know the difference between the hybrid and Non Hybrid 4L's, my xr6 xh is supposed to have a hybrid 4L, whats good and bad about them, with a fiew engine mods in mind, will the hybrid help with power or is the non hybrid make more power with mods, wat benifits do i have with the hybrid and wat are the benifits by not having a hybrid??

Help understanding would be great
Cheers Sean

if the stamp on the head starts with a w then its hybrid if it starts with a number then its a e series head. with the hybrid motor they have the au ports witch are a better shape and allow more down low power they also have the au rocker gear so you have to use an au cam or change the rocker gear.
they have conical shaped valve springs.
they will make very similar power with the same mods.

not quite.. the hybrid head will have either 96dt(xr6) or 96 da..std on the front of the hybrid head..
it is pretty much the same as a au head eg, conical valve springs, 1.8 rocker ratio, and au cam profile..

anything heads with wr2 is std au......

ah ok, 2 of my xr6 tickford engines have 96dt heads and the other tickford engine has a 94dt head, now what about the blocks numbers, i know 1 of my block numbers starts with 94dt which matches with the 94dt head which is ef, but do the hybrids have a different block number??

yep.. early el engines were 94d (same as ef)..
the hybrid block should start with 96d or i had also seen a very late production hybrid block that had wr1...

and the late hybrid motors, are they different in any way, like piston size or type, or compression ratio, anything along those lines??

that im not 100% on..
i think from memory they use specific crank and rods (may even be au)but the bore size and compression is the same as e series.. its just a mix of e series an au componants

AU Crank, E-series rods and pistons and AU style endcaps... Although there have been apparently been some with AU pistons, but these would be extremely late builds.
