They weren't a factory built item.

It was more of an accessory car than a performance car.

Here is mine, as purchased.

Its an EA Ghia 5 speed with all the SVO options except steering wheel and gear knob. Recaro seats. Bilsteins. The SVO front ends have additional camber adjustment. Thick SVO torsion bar (mine even has an SVO sticker on it). Rear spoiler. Sunroof. Mags. Its all there.

I've gathered some early promotional material to add to the collection including the original books/warranties etc. I'd liek to get my hands on some of the Modern Motor mags that covered these cars back in '89-90.

I'm currently building a new engine for it.

enjoy.

niiice, doesn't look like a cheap upgrade for back then!!

Those seats still look pretty comfy too.

Not a cheap upgrade especially when optioned onto a ghia.

In many respects i consider the SVO, while it is only really an "options" car as described, to be the fore-runner to the later XR6 and XR8 sprint...obviously Ford copied it down to the wheels. At the time it was the only hi-po option available from the blue oval. In time i think that the genuine SVO's will definately increase in value.

Personally i PREFER the SVO due to the attention paid to ride and handling (eg: XR's didn't come with bilsteins!).

The Recaro seats are one of the best parts! The drivers' side bolster is a bit squished and i'll have to buy a new cushion for that at some stage. Oh so comfy. Again XR's only got different material on the same s**t seats.

I often wonder why fod didn't at least get Paratus (The Geelong company that did all of the XR trim back in the day...now liquidated) to supply some of their higher spec level seats, which were almost-as-good-as Recaro.

My car needs a few minor things to be a really good example, but they are very thin on the ground to start with so when this came up i just grabbed it. Knew it needed the head gasket done but just decided to go all out on a new motor. If you search under my name you'll find the thread.

I really really really wish it also had an AIT turbo kit optioned on it....maybe thats just dreaming. It does go pretty well as is.

Btw i just saw a 1990 Capri SVO. It was white with colour coded bumpers (not the usual svo grey). It had SVO badging and some sort of colour coded mags with SVO badges in the centre.

Also seen the not-so-typical SVO Fairlanes and once even an LTD. Wagons seem to be more common than first thought but are usually just falcon spec and don't have Recaro seats. Most of the utes floating around are just painted up copies.

Hello people, the one thing that Mick Webb (The SVO Founding father)said was the main thing was the custom made Genie 2.5" Exhaust which bolts straight up to the OG headers. he reckons it helped the breathing just right. I'll get some decent shots of mine and be back soon.
Cheers.

God made Holdens so Wankers would'nt drive FORDS.
