My EF has a strange thing goin on where if I let it sit and idle in the driveway it runs perfectly except for every 2-3mins or so it almost dies for 1 second then returns to normal. It's like the thing chokes on something almost cutting it out, it sort of makes a venting air type sound at the same time. I know it's a bit vague but it's the best I can do. The prob doesn't really concern me as the car runs very sweet otherwise, but there is obviusly a minor prob with it, any ideas??

Clean the contacts of the ISC plug?

Although I would say it's just the ECU re-learning the idle via the ISC. That venting sound is the ISC. I have been in a few ef/el falcons that do this, it's really nothing to worry about.

I think to fix it you just have to re-adjust the base idle speed with the ISC unplugged. You will need a set of feeler gauges to do it .

My impression is the ECU has a pre-determined idle speed that it tries to maintain, and there is no provision for adjusting this.

you can adjust it, just need to short the top and bottom left pins on the diagnostic connector under the fuse panel. Disconnect the ISC plug and put a 0.75mm feeler between the throttle and stop tab and adjust it to your requirements...+- 50rpm from 700RPM.

Cheers............

Okay. So what knob or suchlike are you actually adjusting? Or are you saying that at a set time during the 'self test' phase the computer will lock in the current operating rpm, and take that thereafter as the idle speed?
