nah not that high

If its doing 1850rpm at 100kph with a 3.08 diff, then with 4.11's will be doing roughly 2468rpm at 100kph

Honestly, if you are looking for a workshop to just go there, pay the cash, and walk out with a quick 4L, JMM is the place to go.

I don't think Mick Webb has the runs on the board with 4Ls personally.

Yea all i want to do is just get the headwork done with cam but i dont want to be ripped off. They probely this 19 year old come in and take me for all i got. I want to spend around 1500-2000 Max

Becuase i do have the stock gears, how would it be down low? would it be slower then stock down low then have heaps in mid to top?

not with an auto i should know, at 120k's i'm doing 2600rpm's with 3.45 gears so with 4.11's it will be in the 3000. and yes i'm running the right speedo gear.

what i said was correct.......under 2500rpm with 4.11's doing 100kph, which isnt too bad

But yes if your doing 120kph it will be on 3000rpm

You could have plenty power up top, but would still take forever to get out of first gear. If we had auto ratios like the commodores then it wouldnt be as much of a problem.

you could always get your cam dialed in for down low till you get some more work done in the mean time.

You will lose some power down low yes. If the cam is dialled in correctly, your low down should be just under normal but kick in say about 2000RPM. Mine kicks in at about 2000 - 2200, depends how the car feels and my hand brake ain't stuck on.

On a good day I don't feel a power kick, it just keeps pulling from 1800RPM until just before the limiter.

I think the other issue here is that you're looking for big power out of your daily driver. The two are not really compatible unless you are prepared to pay the fuel/maintenance premium and live with it

ive never really understood the philosophy of having a daily driver means it cant be modded?

My daily driven family car has a decent sized cam, really short diff considering its behind an EA t5 and it revs its f**k tits off on the highway..... big deal?

So it does 2400rpm at 100kph, my family doesnt care, the car runs sweet and always normal temp, fuel economy is 9L/100km on the highway and 13L/100km around town which is quite good considering.

If i reduce the engine's life by 20% then so be it, at least i had a smile on my face the whole time

...which was my whole point - you are obviously prepared to live with that kind of longevity; not everyone is though, so it's worth thinking about.

Well that's how it feels like in my car...it's not like a turbo kick that's for sure or when you hit NOS.

I am sure in correct operation, it should go smoothly. If you hit a flat spot and then get a power hit, I think that means the cam needs to be dialed in better.

Mine does

The specs of the cam can dictate the power delivery. I had my cam grounded at 110 degree lobe centres which gives it a narrow "power curve" and it comes on abruptly and fast and also peaks out quicker.

But most cams are designed for a broad power range so like phongus said it wont exactly be "dead" in the lower revs, but the acceleration in 1st gear wont exactly put a smile in your face for the money spent.

Ive fitted cams before when i had an auto and stock diff ratio, and i wasnt impressed at all. Only since ive fixed up the gearing in the car it has come alive

ok, because the gear is so long, will it feel crap off the line then really start to pick up at say 40ks? when it hits 2500rpm~
