Howdy.

Has anyone put an aftermarket, larger diameter, throttle body on their I6? Reason I ask is because you never hear of it for the I6...

If so, pics would be tough.

Also, is it worth while and is there a decent power gain to be had?

Yes people have fitted them. You dont hear about it though because there are no gains. Unlike so many other engines, the TB on the I6 is already bigger than it needs to be.

i got a pic of one in my gallery that has been boared out, it was on the car when i got it so dont know if theree was any gains. But as Stockstandard said the TB is already big enough.

ive also installed one on my i6... its painted "metallic true blue on the outside bored and polished on the inside with an oversize butterfly valve" makes a loud "whooshing" noise with the mandrel bend disconnected... definatly more sound difference than performance difference...

one thing i dont understand with the |6 throttle body/intake manifold/bbm manifold area. why didnt they turn the top around 180 degrees and have the intake come straight from the airbox :? shorter pipe, wont run over a hot engine etc..

I think the length of the pipe effects the torque of the engine.
I've got an aftermarket throttle body on the wagon now, it's a GRA one, pretty much the same size though just logner - havn't driven the car with it, but I doubt it'll be any different!

Spot on. Longer runner = increased turbulence = more torque = more fun :)

i think you mean increase air velocity rather than turbulence.

i read on the ss inductions site that the TB for the BA 6 gives it 7rwkw
and is 5mm bigger than standard.
7kw for 800 buks hardly seems worth it!
but yeah, its meant to give a heaps better sound!

they give the BA's alot more room for modification though. even more when its on a BA Turbo.
