ok guys need a little help from the experts. i have what i thought to be a factory ef xr6 manual i have now read the vin and found out its actually a ef gli II auto. it has a xr motor, diff and gear box. my car has always had problems idleing (hunting and stalling). i ran the number off the ecu and and it was a gli auto one so i bought a tickford manual ecu for it. now when the idle air solenoid is plugged in it idles fine but doesnt return to idle when it is revved(it just revs up and stays there) but when the idle air solenoid is unplugged its idles sometimes. i have had it too a few mechanics and all they do is pull the throttle body off, clean it and then reset the idle but it goes back to the same thing after a few days. i have checked the resistance accross the idle air solenoid and it is within specs sane as the voltage coming from the wires to the idle air solenoid. if anyone has any suggestions i would greately appreciate it. i was very angry when i found out this car wasnt what i payed for and i just want to get rid of it

turn down the throttle body screw with the isc plugged in until it revs ok without hanging.

Have you removed the resistor trick on the loom after fitting manual ecu?

it idles fine once i start it about 700 - 900 its only when i rev it it sticks it slowly goes back down after half a minute or so . so if i wind it down it will idle to low once it returns to idle(wont it). i am only a first year so i am just learning. and it was a used car place in adelaide called sothern cross car sales that i bought it from. i went back there once i found out it was a gli and the place was cleared out. i have since bought a original ef xr6 manual and have bought a turbo for it. so i need the extra cash but i cant sell my old car with it idling like a bucket of crap

here is something to try.

1st. does it idle when warm without the isc conected?
if it does unplug the isc and turn the idle screw down untill it stalls..
then plug the isc back in and see if that helps...

it idles when warm sometimes. ill give it a try tho. if i dont let it drop to idle to fast ie let it stay in gear when im slowing down until its at around 1100 it will idle ok but say if i drive to 3000rpm or higher and put my foot on the clutch the revs drop too fast and it will stall.

 Have you tried cleaning the Idle Speed Control unit?
Sometimes it can get gummed up.
Does it run a K&N filter or similar oil coated air cleaner?

about a month before i changed the computer it only used to idle like it does when it was cold so i thought it was a temperature sensor not doing its job. but then it just started to do it always then i found out about the gli problem and the gli auto computer.

This is only my opinion ok, K&N are great filters but I think sometimes owners may over oil them. Even if oil is applied correctly your ISC will eventually need cleaning.
Its just a maintainence job that is required regardless of the type of filter used.
Personally I use a high flow non oiled filter that lasts years & is washable in my BA & EA.
There is info on this site with pics & all info on how to clean ISC, I sent it to a guy few weeks ago & not sure exactly were I found it.
Maybe someone here could help with that or go searching.
Anyhow you need to tackle this prob thru eliminating any possible causes & this is one of them.
hope it does the trick. Cheers
