I posted a topic recently of how sometimes my car would hesitate starting, sometimes it would turn over first time, sometimes it would wait a couple of seconds and start, other times it did nothing at all. Well i recently discovered that if i put it in neutral it starts first time, every time. Any comments would be greatly appreciated guys

Cheers

Yep, remember that thread. Sounds like the inhibitor s/w is playing up. It sits on the LH side of the auto transmission. I'm not sure if it can be dismantled and cleaned, may be easier to replace it. Confirm the fault by locating the starter relay - rearmost in the bank of 4 relays sitting between the battery and the RH fender. You'll need to remove the plastic cover. Pull the relay and locate the two relay coil power wires (both red/blue). Put trans in 'N', and check which lead goes to earth. Put trans in 'P' and see if same lead still goes to earth. If not, replace relay, short that lead to earth, and see if the engine motors over. If so, the inhibitor s/w is definately suspect.

Thanks for the advice snap, im pretty useless though when it comes to working on cars, i can really only change the oil filter lol, u know how much replacing the inhibitor would cost roughly?

Not sure, I don't think they're cheap. Be wise to confirm it actually is at fault.
