Hi all, I'm a little confused on advancing the ignition timing, I've been searching for days on more info but can't find anything, in the "all your 6cyl questions" topic it says to put the engine in diag mode and then you have 1 minute to set it, but then other people and topics say put it in diag mode then wait 2 mins then you have 1min to set it, so I'm confused as to which to do ahah, I had it in diag mode and started playing with it a little, I put it in diag mode, then waited 2 mins for the engine to almost stall then start changing it, but one part confused me, in diag mode I set it to about 2mm ATDC, (to the right of the timing mark) then take the bridge off the 2 terminals and then recheck the timing and its sitting about 5mm to the left of the timing mark, is this normal for it to change like that between being in diag mode and then removing the bridge? It still doesn't seem to have as much go as it used too.. Just had the motor out and done a head gasket and used MLS, cost me bugger all, (advantages of being an apprentice mechanic and living at your work) ahah, any info would be great, sorry for the super long parragraph, cheers :)

In ea/eb you set it within the first minute. El you wait the two minutes for it to go into diagnostic mode.. if you want to advance your timing you set it before tdc not after..
When you go out of diagnostic mode the ecu takes over.. thats why you see different timing after you disconnect.
