Hey all,

On the weekend of 4th and 5th of Feb there is a circuit familarisation/ track day at Phillip Island.

I am going for the Saturday circuit familarisation. I went before in october last year and it was just fantastic. It really is a great way to reward yourself for all the hard work on your car, all those mods become worth it! Heaps of fun too.

go to www.piarc.com.au

and http://www.piarc.com.au/files//Feb%20Sp ... 20Regs.pdf

The saturday is the best day for learning with experienced instructors showing you how to drive. There is no official timing though. (but a stopwatch is good) Last year I drove a total of 180Km around the track and used 3/4 of a tank of fuel!

Cost:
You will need a club membership (PIARC ones are $55 per year and can be bought with the entry form) and a CAMS Level 2 HS licence. These can be bought on the day and cost about $85 /year. You also need a Helmet (borrow a M/C one off a mate) and seccond bonnet catch - an old belt works well. If you have glass headlights (EA-ED) then you need to put contact over them.
Entry fee is $130.

Any car can compete just make sure you don't have bald tyres or anything to make it unroadworthy, loud exhausts are ok!. Performance brake pads will help alot but even a stock car will be loads of fun.

It would be great to see more Fords to woop Holden a**!

Is there a requirement for a full license, or is Probationary okay to get the CAMS level 2?

There are no tests. You don't even have to be licenced on the road. $85, fill in a form and from that seccond on you have a Level 2 HS licence. It allows you to do heaps of motorsport things.
From motorkahana's, Autocross etc.

What sort of atmosphere is it amongst the people there Spork?
Will I cop death-stares for rocking up in a deadslow auto ED that's only saving grace is some suspension work?
Or is everyone pretty laidback and friendly?

No it's really friendly. There are alot of cars there and everyone is divided into categories depending on speed. You only go on the track with your category.

Last time there was everything from the betta Electrical Carrera Cup GT3 Cars to a 1964 HR holden with 4 wheel drum brakes!!! Also alot of old escorts some R31 (non turbo) skylines old celica's etc. So there are plenty in the slower classes.
If it's your first time I would say enter in the slowest class, you can always move up. (I will be entering in the slowest class)
