Something just dawned on me, which may explain why my car with 2 mufflers is illegally loud (Just chopped off a 3rd!), yet the same car with a set of headers and 1 muffler is not as loud ...

Is there any way to tell if my engine has an aftermarket or modified camshaft (short of opening it up)?

That might explain why your "freak fairmont" makes 130 @ the wheels. It might have a mild cam in there.

It doesn' t have the AU motor, does it? (the ECU/head will have 96DA printed on them if it is)

All running engines have cams, but seriously I recon you are going to have to take the rocker cover off , even take that cam out and compare it against a standard one.

you will know if it's an AU head, by the WR... part number. As for telling if it has a cam. Short of measuring the lobes, I doubt there's a real way of doing it.

Cheers

You will have to remove the rocker cover to check.

The cam if its a regrind will have number stamped onto it (could be either end) otherwise it wont have Ford or Ford part numbers on it.

Actually they don't lol ;-)

research "sleeve valves" and you'll know what I mean... used on old aircraft piston engines...

Do ALL regrinds have numbers? I thought that was a manufacturer option/feature?

Cheers

I dont know if 100% of them do, but most of the popular companies will stamp them if not just for warranty and quality purposes.

chuck her in first, and say it had the stage 3 wade cam in it, the motor will act normal for the first 2500 rpm then as soon as it hits 2500rpm the car will rev a bit more freely, the note will change a little and it will go faster. thats how mine goes anyhow.
